Yet another 360 RROD thread....

That's my 3/4th xbox now showing the dreaded RROD and having bought it in 2006 it's now out of warranty. :(

Options:
1. Buy 360 arcade and stick existing 20gb hard drive in. Will that simply be a case of plug and play?

2. Buy elite and try to transfer hd content.

Any suggestions guys? I am not that bothered about going to a bigger HD. The most important thing for me is that my game content (Forza 3 VIP stuff and cars) is safe!!

Thanks for your help :)

When my brother's xbox failed we bought an arcade and swapped the HD over. Everything was fine as I remember.

Cheers Lost :)

everything on you Hard Drive will be fine. Option is repair the one you have (£82 now you are out of the three years) or go buy a new one on a cheap bundle and ebay all the stuff you get with it.

second option will see you spend about £50 if you find a deal with 3 games included

As above really, yeah your HDD will swap over no problems, but shop as recommended for a decent bundle, with the intention to keep the games or flog any extras, also try your luck with your RROD Xbox on eBay, i managed to get £50 for my RROD launch console, sold it with power box and Component cable and kept the controllers:thumb:

I don't believe this works, although lots of people says it does. Worth a try on your Xbox: YouTube - XBOX 360 TOWEL FIX

Fix it yourself. My sons one got the three red lights and i bought a kit from ebay ( x-clamp fix ) and sorted it myself. It took around an hour and cost me about £3

Kosy 13 January 2010 11:08 PM

Cheers chaps! Think I'll go with the cheap bundle option. Flog the games and dead console on eBay. That was I get a new jasper chipset warrantied machine for minimal net outlay. Perfect! :D

Bought a new 360 elite the week before xmas for my son, came with 4 top games and was only £199 from Game, not sure if the deal is still on but maybe worth seeing what deals Game / HMV have on offer just now ??

what is the often seen adverts in the local free adds papers etc that claim to fix RROD faults on the 360 for around £30.

whatever it is that causes the RROD can it be fixed for around this figure if your warranty was out ??

** Whilst on the subject guys what is the main benefit to be able to play your games from hardrive as opposed to disc ?? appreciatte the actual unit will be overall less noisy but if the original disc has to actually be in the drive what real benefit is it ?? surely microsoft never actually introduced this feature just si users could play games without listening to there 360 drive spinning away did they ??

It saves your laser too :thumb: also quicker load times. Games i play alot i always install to HDD

Okay thats great appreciatte the info. also great to know the RROD will not effect this new elite version, be interested if anyone knows off any new 360 elites that have ever had the RROD ??

sorry to the original poster off this thread not trying to h-ijack your thread mate !!

Xbox 360 Arcade @ Very

Use Promo code: XX958 to get the deal for £91.15 :thumb:

ScoobyWont - Fantastico!! Cheers for that. Cracking price, would never have believed that £300 consoles would drop to that in 3 years. :D

My launch day elite went RROD begginingof december!!

back 2 weeks later with a repair (dont hold your breath)

The elites were launched with the Xenon /Zephyr chipset, so are

effectivly exactly the same as a standard Xbox (just with added hdmi

port) hence they fail.

New produced units should have later chipsets , (jasper) etc so

should be ok. Do a search for identifying chipsets via power

connector that should help you

Bloody hell that's cheap!
I'm almost tempted to get one as a backup! (I've got a launch day machine that's been back twice already, now it's out of warranty)

This only kills the xbox more and doesnt fix it

I have attempted repair on 2 360s so far and the fix is either 8 bolts and some thermal compound or a non permanent fix is bending th xclamps to make them press harder, both 360s are back running fine :D

First one was 3 red lights rrod and the second one had the E74 error

Both work fine and was only a few quid to fix
