BENT MAYBE???

Hi guys, Unfortunatley on new years day i lost control of the car and slid sideways on the ice into a kerb causing the rear wheel to buckle:cuckoo:, The wheel itself looks fine but its sticking out at the top quite a bit, so if your looking at the car from the front the top of the wheel sticks out from the side, the bottom of the wheel looks as if its still in line. my friend seems to think my shocker is bent at the top, theres nothing snapped or out of place when i looked. any suggestions would be apprecaited and if you can tell me how to get the shocker out that would be great.:wonder:

Ive been off the road since then and im really missing being in the car:cry:, please help me! cheers!!!

Sounds like strut well bent, does it move up and down anymore - bending will jam it. Also likely to have bent bolt through bottom of hub and maybe damaged bushes as it sounds as if it has had a heavy blow.

Did the exactly the same as you the other day, the wheel was sticking out at the top the same as yours. The back end felt very slidy and i couldn't go above 35mph. Turned out to be the hub was slightly bent but you couldn't really tell even when it was off the car.

mine really is bent, it was a heavy blow, i smacked my head on the window, suprised the window didnt go too. pleased vthe airbags didnt go.

It will be a mixture of strut, hub and possibly diff cradle and lateral arms, deffo hub and strut damage tho.

s3oya 19 January 2010 04:14 PM

done!

changed the shocker today, its a bit better not sticking out as much. got to be something else too, any ideas. and cost, did the shocker myself but i'm thinkin it might have to go into a garage and thats going to cost a fortune!

As per my previous post,

It will be a mixture of strut, hub and possibly diff cradle and lateral arms, deffo hub and strut damage tho.

Been there before

Lateral arms are cheap and easy to swap over urself

172sport 19 January 2010 05:05 PM

Change the hub first

mr_D 19 January 2010 05:21 PM

remember a 2 mill bent hub may cause you to be 10mm out at the top of maybe more. i aint doing the maths.

another thing to make sure you have done is when doing the bottom bolts up on the shok that you loosen the top and bottom and get someone or yourself to push the top of the disk and then do the bolt on top up. this will make sure its set right. before you mess around with anything else

mr_D 19 January 2010 05:21 PM

oh and also take your wheel and get it put on a balance at your local tyre fitter :thumb:

how much does subaru charge for a hub?

D1CCY 25 January 2010 12:10 PM

Scoobyclinic charged me £50 for a secondhand rear hub when failed wheel bearing ruined it.

jasongtr 02 February 2010 01:44 PM

if it does turn out to be the diff cradle or any off the large beams, i have these for sale from a few i broke

good luck

cheers guys, i took it to garage and they said only thing that aint bent is the new shocker i replaced it going to cost 1300 quid for parts from subaru so im just going through insurance. thanks for all your help and advice hopefully see some of youz at nbo 10 in june!! s3oya!

MrNoisy 05 February 2010 11:56 AM

Did similar to you but at the front mate.
New shock, hub, lower wishbone, bearing the lot!

For the rear ideally replace the shock, hub, lateral arms and control arm if you want to absolutely sure! If you've damaged the diff too you really must have whacked it hard!
You could always go for some adjustable rear arms whilst it's in the shop so you can dial in more camber / castor - I bet the aftermarket parts will be cheaper than the Subaru items ;)

Best to get it all done so you have confidence in the car. Hope it goes well :thumb:

yep, thats exactley what i said, if i did it myself then every time i went out i would worry incase something went wrong. called garage this morn, they said 900 for parts, hub, bearings, control arms basically everything on the o/s/r. apart from the shocker i replaced. get it back tuesday woo hoo. i'll be like a kid with a new toy. well prob a big kid with his big toy back. nbo here i come!!!!!

s3oya 11 February 2010 08:28 AM
