Just read the 0-60 of the old shape Civic Type R is 5.7secs.
Fcuk me that's fast for a 1.8 normally aspirated car. Anybody ever experienced this car, any comments? |
They are quick, I think there's been a discussion about them in Other Marques
|
the old shape is a 1.6 chucking out something like 180bhp.
0-60 is indeed 5.7 secs. |
I friend of mine was trying to get a 'grey' a couple of years back. He finished up buying the Honda Civic Jordan which is still pretty cool.
Have a look here for details: http://www.honda.org.uk/honda_integra_type_r_vs_civic_type_r/honda_integra_type_r_vs_civic_type_r.html Laurence |
Yup, I was shocked by how quick the "old" Civic Type R is! ;)
A couple of my mates bat for the other side (no, not that way... they drive Evo's) and I go out on their runs out in the country. Anyway, a few months back, a guy turned up in an old shape Civic Type R. He followed us on our run out over Hawes and round the lakes and we were amazed by how quick this little thing was. Also, it sounded superb! He booted it in front of us and we held back on purpose to listen... when the VTEC kicked in the little Civic took on a new life, the rear end dropped and it went like a rocket! :) Definately worth a look. |
Is it safe to assume that the old CTR which is 1.6 is faster than the new CTR which is 2.0 over 0-60?
|
Yup, smaller & lighter, but nearly as much power! ;)
Old Civic Type R - 0-60 - 5.7secs New Civic Type R - 0-60 - 6.7secs http://auto.ascii24.com/auto24/e/200...0221_03_04.jpg Not bad for a 1.6 litre car!!! :D http://pages.infinit.net/abc/CivicR/UnderHood.jpg |
The 0-60 of the old CTR is faster than the new one, but on the 0-100 the new one is quite a bit quicker. Mainly due to extra mid-range from the iVTEC I reckon.
Thing is that everyone knows that the new one is quick, the old one is a bit of a 'sleeper'. Pull up alongside one at the lights and you don't know what you're letting yourself in for :) Laurence |
Well, I know the stats for the new Type R -
New Honda Civic Type-R: Year - 2001 Power - 197bhp 0-30 - 2.7secs 0-60 - 6.7secs 0-100 - 16.2secs 1/4 mile - 15.2secs @ 96mph - - - Old Honda Civic Type-R: Year - 1998 Power - 185bhp 0-30 - ? 0-60 - 5.7secs 0-100 - ? 1/4 mile - ? (limited to 112mph) - - - Compared to a UK Scooby... Subaru Impreza UK Turbo: Year - 1998 Power - 208bhp 0-30 - 1.8secs 0-60 - 5.5secs 0-100 - 15.8secs 1/4 mile - 14.2secs @ 87mph Looking at those stats, it shows that the newer Honda is not as quick off the mark as the Scooby, but when it gets going it really can move!!! |
Thanks guys. I can now settle the argument with my pal and inform him that the old CTR is faster than the new CTR for 0-60.

A 98 Subaru is not documented as 0-60 5.5secs.
Why have you made this figure up? |
Cos Subaru are a bit economical with the truth on the performance. They quote 6.4 secs 0-60 but most magazines quote around 5.6.
Honda also quote 6.4 secs 0-60 although you will find most people talking about 6.8 which is the 0-62 time (approx). Funny thing is though that Subaru quote 5.8 secs 0-60 for the WRX01 and the magazines agree there. These days though 0-60 doesn't count for much save traffic light racing anyway. It's 0-100 that counts as it proves torque more efficiently. Laurence |
I found some of the missing stats for the old CTR -
0-30mph 1.8secs 0-100mph 17.5secs 1/4 mile 15.0secs @94mph See Warrender's page - http://www.warrender.co.uk/test0002.htm |

I have NOT made that up... why would I do that?! :( I got those figures from - http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/rivals_cars.htm It is a huge database of performance data. Although... it is not "always" correct! |
Rich that was me in the old CTR, and now has a few mods :D
|
Ahaaaaa...
We were all well impressed by that little Civic mate! :) What else have you done to it now?! |
Spec is;
Blitz realize TT Exhaust cat back De-cat Apex Air Filter Homemade Ducting for Apexi Home made ducting for brakes HKS Iradium Sparkplugs HKS Hiper Dampers II Cusco Rear Strut Brace Rear adjustible arms Carbon Fibre bonnet (waiting to arrive) Removed a little weight Upgraded the disks and pads Mugen ECU, and valve springs coming soon I have had 5.9 0-60, 15.3 1/4 mile time, and 16.9 for my best 0-100 in standard spec. I found it incredibly difficult to launch when i first had it which is when i acheived these times, although i now know how to launch it, to should be able to acheive some good times. With the new mods i am purely working on best benefits for track work and reliabilty hence no money spent on the Engine. [Edited by Type R - 3/24/2002 8:12:18 PM] |
