Golf GTD ?
Has any one had a drive in one of these please, I'm about to order one, but none of the dealers I've spoken to has one for a test drive.
The reviews I've read so far seem cool, but I'd have been nicer to have a feel before the commitment. Any advise will be highly appreciated. Cheers |
Isn't the GTD ancient?
Or do you mean a more recent version? |
Can't comment on the Mk6 GTD, but I have a Mk5 GT Sport. Same engine, 168BHP.
Can't fault it TBH. Yes the GTI will be the sharper tool, but for every day driving it's reasonable quick. Is a decent overtaker, thanks to the Torque, and handles pretty well. Never really notice the heavy lump up front. I guess stepping out of a GTI into a GTD, then you'd notice. I get pretty good mpg. Average about 38mpg. That's with frequent short journeys and a pretty lead foot. Can't knock the build quality. Mine's a 2008 car with leather heated seats, upgrade sound system, ipod connection (a must) and 18" R32 alloys. Got it ex-demo, 2 months old. Saved Thousands. Priced up a GTD, and TBH I couldn't justify the price of the leather. Have you looked at ex-demo's? Although still being new out, the discount might not be much. Will be changing the Golf either August/september this year or spring next year. The GTD will be one of the options. Car does everything I need. It's quite, comfortable, pretty quick, handles well, and returns decent mpg. Go for it, you won't be disapointed. |

I doubt I'll be going for the leather seats, but defo upgrade the sound system and maybe a remap after a year. The 140 2.0 TDI could be another choice but the GTD looks pretty cool. What is the ride like with the 18's ? Unfortunately i couldn't find an ex demo in 5 doors. Once again thanks !!! |
Oops - VW have released another GTD (think the last one was mk2 or 3?) without me knowing!

Fantastic car imho. Had a play with one when looking at my GTI.
Almost as sharp as the GTI, and for a soot-chucker, very good performance. Recommended - just look at the used prices - they're holding relatively well (but not worth it new imho) Then what do I know, I went SUL instead ;) (Wifey wants one though :) ) |
Car does everything I need. - so why the recent 370Z purchase then?!
And quite what...?! |

And quite what...?! I'm very very very very very very very sorry for my spelling mistake. I meant to say quiet but as I was at work and in a rush to type, the small error appeared in my post. ;) Othor then thet, im usualy a very good spaller. :thumb: |
Stilover - I only picked up on it because you don't make many mistakes...!
Snow gone here. And strangely I can't wait to have a drive in our diesel auto estate! I'd be going mad if I was you - new fast car and no chance of using it - it'll be worth it soon! When do we get some pics? |

18"s are okay - firm-ish, but not bad. They're a little noisy on some types of road surface, but it's probably more to do with the width. Bridgestones are apparently quieter than the other makes they fit (sorry, can't remember which ones)
If you don't go for DAB, deffo get the reversing camera - it's only £150 and is really surprisingly useful. It's even good at night - much better than parking sensors. Edit: in hindsight I'd have gone for DSG as I can't be arsed changing gears, and also the Dynaudio package as it's not much and whilst the standard set-up is fine, it's not 'special'. Thanks for the info, did you get the adaptive chasis settings ? I just want to know if it's really worth it or a marketing gimmick. I'l like to go for the 18''s, no DAB but the Dynaudio upgrade. Off to the dealers on Saturday. Ta. |
