There is a rumour (I must stress that it could be complete nonsense!) that NTL are about to go bust.

Normally I wouldn't repeat such things on Scoobynet but if you (or your firm) have NTL lease lines or other business critical services it might be wise to look at your fallback/DR plan and make sure that its upto date.

Basically don't panic 'cos its probable rubbish but just make sure that your covered.

I highly Doubt it, NTL have got a lot of debts yes, but as one of the Major ATO's in the UK even if they did go under there client base would be bought up pretty quickly.

Like I said rumour.....

But there is talk that NTL are hawking themselves around to other Telcos and no one is interested in buying them out as is...

Jeff,

The company i work for supply a lot of the ATO's with hardware to enable them to operate! If things with NTL were that bad then we would not be shipping them anything!

I think its just a roumor, i doubt anything will come of it! Although i have been proved wrong before!

It's pretty widely known in (finance circles anyway) that NTL are struggling with a heavy debt burden. Pace have been refusing to ship them any set top boxes for a month or so and has now stopped production to avoid a stock build up. The reason they stopped was because they could no longer get credit insurance for the bills.

I doubt they'd shut down overnight - if the worst did happen then they would most likely be sold as a going concern - but you never know.

Look what happened to Dolphin

:)

I know we are still shipping, but we have been able to get insurance on them. We have had them on hold previously

Little bird tells me that NTL engineers where locked out of Telehouse 'cos the bill wasn't paid.......

And look what happend to Atlantic Telecom here in Scotland. Never as big as NTL, but they closed down in days.

What about ITV-digital? are they going under too?

Company also ships kit into NTL.............

Reasons they won't go bust.....

1) Their cash flow can service their immediate debt. Debt restructuring and organisational changes will ensure the mid term is viable. Long term , thats another matter.....

2) Oftel are watching.

If you look at some others in a worse position , Energis & Deutsche Telecom now thats a similar problem.

Markets not good
