Boost?

Interested to hear what boost levels you guys are running? My car is being run in at the mo & will be remapped at end of Jan. Previous owner says it will be OK to run 2bar ...

Cheers, TX.

PS - spec is CDB, forged pistons, MD321T turbo etc.

newage STI PPP - remap to 1.45 bar (i think!) Max you can run a VF35 is around 1.5 (again i think ha ha)

Would have said a cdb with decent internals will run 2bar happily.

Hawkeye STI 1.4 bar (safe map) could of gone a little higher but was happy with 333 bhp for my every day work horse :thumb:

Newage STI 1.7bar on MD195S

2bar is alot of boost. Some people seem to get infactuated with running high levels of boost.

The key is to find a turbo spec that meets your power goals, ideally without having to run such high boost levels. For some builds this is not an option, but for 95% of us it is.

1 bar. :D

dunx 10 January 2010 04:31 PM

Mine has reached 2 bar, due to a hose failure, but is mapped to 1.7 bar with cold weather overboost to 1.8... std 2002 STI motor.

I wont say what mine 'has' reached :)

2 bar on that spec should be fine TX if decent heads gaskets and build. I doubt you would want to hold 2 bar to redline (even if it could)

jd5217 10 January 2010 04:43 PM

Mine had a boost solenoid failiure a while back, hit 2.3 bar on the road!

Glad that got fixed.

scoobymad555 10 January 2010 04:46 PM

still got a few things to do on mine yet but once they're done it'll be sitting somewhere around 2bar, maybe 2.2 :)

Is that on the current engine that i rebuilt Dunc?

Note to self: WARRANTY VOIDED BY CUSTOMER :D

My setup is a 2.35 with GT35R - Running 2.1Bar to the 8500 rev limit :)

Yes mate ... I have accidentally hit 2.8 bar  :nono:

Jeesh it flew !!

stevebt 10 January 2010 05:20 PM

Mine is mapped to 2.2bar :D

H4RDY-P1 10 January 2010 05:32 PM

Mine is mapped to 1.75 bar,2.3l,gt35r
i have seen a peak of 31psi on the e-boost 2 but was hitting boost cut (autronic) later found a split servo to inlet mani pipe !!!!!

with stock heads? - I'd expect to be seeing a bit more than that :)

H4RDY-P1 10 January 2010 05:47 PM

Really ?.

FB Tuning 10 January 2010 06:13 PM

On a freshly rebuiilt 2.35 (under 200 miles) with fully built up heads, i think i saw 535hp @ 1.7 Bar - granted that was using some WI, but quite a safe AFR (similar to yours)

So, i guess you're not really much down on power (but should be able to find some more with a bit more boost :) )

Terminator X 10 January 2010 06:39 PM

What do you run yours at fella (realize that it's a bit "special") + what do you think is a reasonable level for any particular turbo?

TX.

I don't how restrictive the exhaust wheel and housing is on a MD321T, but i couldn't run more than 1.65Bar on a 2.35 with MD321s - Upping the Boost Valve Duty Cycle didn't make the boost go up at all.

That setup made 496hp with Water Injection
