Prosport guages - any good?
 

I am having a problem with the boost guage fitted on my Wrx. I assume it is the guage as the boost seems ok but the guage sticks at about -0.4 after the car is driven for about 30 mins. i am going to check it over on the weekend to confirm this but just wanted your thoughts. Are prosport guages ok? I don't think the one currently fitted has been on that long and has failed, it may just be a one off but if it is a case that they aren't much cop then i would rather find out before I go and buy another.
Also i noticed that the defi guages are much more expensive and a bit more than i was wanting to pay.

So what do you reckon,
stick with Prosport?
any other decent makes to try (at a similar price)?

oh and it is the mechanical version not the electronic if that makes any difference

Defis are dear for a reason: they work, day in, day out, from first fitting;)

There have been a number of problems with Prosport gauges on here in the last few weeks, they would appear to have a problem with quality control.

really, that's worrying. I notice sccoby world and scooby parts both stock prosport guages so i might have to look for alternatives elswhere if this is the case.
Any advice on which makes to go for ideally at the cheaper end of the market - defi's are just too much I'm afraid got a new bathroom to pay for

With what I've read on here and experience of those fitted to my son's EVO and his g/f's Fiesta ST I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole!

I have Prosport gauges and they work brilliantly. Are you sure it's not just the vacuum?

I have prosport stepper gauges fitted and they all work fine. They can be a pain to fit and the fixings at the back of the gauge arent the best. I think the reason there has been alot of problems on here is that there was a massive group buy with a load of them being fitted, so I would think there would naturally be some issues. Would be interesting if it was a defi group buy, to see if the same amount of install problems occured.

There has been, and IIRC, there weren't.

The only probs I've ever come across on Defis, mine included, have been down to poor fitting: mine was a poor earth, now straight to battery, so no longer a problem.

So again, it comes down to fitting gauges properly.

The guage has been working fine for the last 6 months that I have owned the car (guage fitted when bought)so the fitting would not be my first thought however I am going to give it a good check over this weekend to rule out any wiring or tube problems.
The problem I get is that after about 30 mins of driving the guage sticks. I have also noticed that when I turn the ignition off the needle doesn't drop straight back to zero as it normally does. That says to me that I am gonna check the guage over before looking elsewhere.

Those blitz and autoguage units look nice. I had a bit of a browse whilst bored at work

Sorry to hijack.....can I ask how tight a fit the sensor cables were into the back of the gauges?

I got 3 from the group buy and I'm about to send 2 back. The sensor cable clicks into place but there's still a few mm of play so the connection doesn't stay.

ill second that had mine on for 12 months or so and they work fine
just get someone wo actually knows how to fit then and youll be fine :thumb:

I had the same problem with my prosport stepper boost gauge. In the end it was a poor connection from the wire from the boost controller to the back of the gauge. Just sent mine back and getting a replacement. It is wierd as a few people have complained about the same problem but when I rang Scoobyworld to get a replacement they said i was the first person to ever have a problem with one?

Its not to do with installation. On my gauge the block connector soldered to the back of the gauge was just a weak connection. If you held the wire in place it was fine as soon as you let go the dail would drop to about 0.4 and the background would flash

Sorry to bring this thread alive again.

I rang scoobyworld about two days ago to ask how reliable prosport gauges where.

Now I know they are not going to slate them as it's not good sellling point. But they pointed out that they have sold over 200 and have had only one boost gauge returned.

They just told me to make sure the connector is fixed into place properly, until you hear it click into place.

I've decided to go ahead and buy them. And see what happens.

I did have some problems with my pro sport guage a while ago but i found that this was simply due to the pipe to the guage being crushed when the pod was fitted to the pillar, once I sorted this the guage worked fine again. So any problems I had were simply down to the fitting of the guage 9by the previous owner not me). it does highlight that the electrionic guages may be less hassle free than the mechanical ones though.

Check its not the vacume pipe getting hot and flexable then sucking its self together
thats what it sounds like to me, as it does not go back to rest till it cools down a bit and opens and goes hard again
my mate had this I sussed it when he told me he had used windscreen washer tube rather than that "expensive" proper tube
replaced the tube never had the problem again

Bought mine from Xyberautos. £149 for Boost, Oil Temp, oil pressure, sandwich plate and I ended up with the remote warning lights x 3 and a set of stainless steel valve caps. It was recommended by Scoobyparts as they are out of stock and cannot get them cheap anymore.

Not bad really and only took 7 days (including a weekend) from Singapore.
