Bugeye WRX Questions

I have the chance to buy a bugeye impreza wagon on a W plate for very little money as it needs a complete new engine and few replacement body panels.

Is it the EJ25 engine that's in these and can the front body panels be changed to blobeye body panels.

Many thanks.

It's an EJ205 in the Bugeye WRX.

Take the wings, bonnet, bumper, grill, lights, front panel off a 4dr blobeye and it will look like a blobeye.

You could do what i did and install a v.8 2003 STi lump, cabin wiring loom and ECU and you have the makings of a newage STi wagon minus the 6spd box. All you've got to do is a few small wiring mods to make the rear wiper and headlight leveller work and you're away.

If i did it again i would go for the JDM wiring loom and ECU as it comes without an immobiliser. Much easier to just swap ECU's around without needing to sync your keys up everytime.

Otherwise just get a built 2.5 bottom end if you want torquier engine.

The "W" plate will be a private plate.

Forgot to mention, it`s a WRX.

Thanks for the info guys, just what I was looking for.

Not sure what route to go down with the engine yet. If I decide to keep it for myself then I will most likely put an STI engine in it. (Be warned, more posts to follow if I go down this route :D) But if I sell it on then I will put a replacement WRX engine in to keep costs down.

Just don't want the guy to scrap it :(

Going to pick my Scoob up later so I'll try and get a couple of pics of it and some more details.

if you put the sti engine in, then you may have a problem with the AVCS wiring, unless you do a full loom swap for the bay I think, others will know better. I thonght about that then when i heard of the wiring, I stuck with the wrx engine, but i'm going to go down the 2.5 route at some point in the future.

Good luck and keep the bugeye ;0) Bugs for the win!

The modification to run the AVCS from the standard loom is a big PITA and there isn't a lot of documentation about it either, not that i could find at the time as this was another option!!

Changing the whole cabin loom was initially enough of a headache as it was but i'm very glad i did it that way as ultimately it wasn't too bad a job to do in the end.

Will do. Going back to see it tomorrow, too dark when I picked my scoob up.

Oh, it's on a Y plate and the usual impreza blue.

Silly question........is that an LPG conversion? I don't recognise the feature behind the fuel filler cap.
