With that sort of money you could get a Supercharged one, make sure it has the LR warranty and you should have no problems other than filling it up. 100 litre tank takes a while to fill.

As an aside I have never understood that the petrol trigger locks in the UK are deactivated unlike in other European countries.

Put things into perspective

as a rule the internet is full of posts on forums about all the issues people have with cars and how to sort them out etc

there are tens of thousands of other people who dont have major issues and as such have no need to post about how brilliant the car they are driving is.

There is not a car on the road you couldnt find a horror story about on the net

they all go wrong and you are maybe lucky or unlucky

also as far as warranty is concerned ...dont go own the LR route

TESCO do car warranty
they have a "finest" policy which covers cars up to 6 years old and less than 60k miles

this policy is underwritten by the same company that does the LR one!!

superb cover including MOT insurance etc cost..........£419 a year

less than half what you will pay LR and you can use the LR dealerships for all claims repairs

The supercharged one does look a great car but I'm not too concerned with the extra performance. Additionally, not sure I want to spend that much.

I am considering leasing but would ideally prefer to own something at the end of the it, hence the purchase 2nd hand

I've just sold mine privately, the chap was originally looking to buy from a dealer due to the finance facilities, but I put him in contact with a chap who sorted it all out at a good rate. He got a 3 year old car which with a service and LR warranty.

Has the reliability changed at all since Tata took over?

remember the g'friends dad having his brand new range rover having to go back to the factory on a trailer, it had so many faults the main dealer couldn't fix it.

you never hear the same tales from landcruiser owners !!!!

I had a Landcruiser for 2 1/2 years never had a single problem with it apart from the battery started getting a bit tired in the cold this year, so i put a new one on, iv'e now changed it for a much newer ML320, and my miss'es is well peaved, she really did'nt want me to change it, she loved the landcruiser.

had a friend with a shogun. 280000 on it, and faultless. bloody slow though !!

and why Top Gear in the 4x4 south American challange had them as support vehicles, and why the Nairobi RR dealership uses Land Rover liveried Amazons as recovery trucks

A Land Cruiser probably doesn't have anywhere near the refinement of a Range Rover, but the Range Rover wouldn't touch the Toyota for reliability. I suppose it's personal choice. My mum had a 2003 Land Cruiser from new and it was faultless.

Also, I have just come back from a trip to Australia. It is absolutely crawling with Land Cruisers over there, from ancient ones to the latest ones (mainly painted white it seems!). A lot of them are covered in dust so it looks like they get used properly. I didn't see many Land Rovers.....

I think they are all stuck in the Bush

as the aussies say "if you wonna go into the bush take a Land Rover, if you wanna come back take a Land Cruiser"
