Difference between Hawkeye STI UK & JDM
I have searched the forum but can't find an answer.
What are the visual differences between the Hawkeye STI UK and JDM cars? Interested in both mechanical and cosmetic differences. Do they have certain VIN numbers? |
Jap spec comes with forged engines twinscroll turbo equal length headers auto waster spray switch Rear privacy glass Xenon headlights and tend to cost more then the uk cars and hold there value better.
|
and jdm have a 2.0l lump uk have 2.5l
|
Cheers Juggers.
What about the interior? seats, clocks etc. Also does JDM version come with a rear window wiper? |
Where's Tony B when you need him ;)??
Aside from the above (including the rear wiper, you are correct) JDM have folding mirrors, clocks sweep around on start up. Think seats are same but not certain. JDM also revs higher and has lower gearing (I think might just be in 6th, again not certain). Steering rack might be quicker than UK. Twin scroll setup means plenty of torque low in rev range aswell as top end, though the 2.5 lump in the UK also has low down grunt. Equal length headers gives a different exhaust note for the JDM, still sounds good just not the 'traditional'. JDM may also be slightly lower weight??? Some of the above may be nonsense :) as in general terms, the newer the model, the less difference between UK and JDM. Of course that statement may also be nonsense. HTH dnc |
Im Here :D
Pretty much all has been said, rear wiper, the stalk controls are the opposite to the UK ones, more goodies on the JDM's, quicker steering rack, different engine etc, a better all round car tbh. Tony:) |
Cheers lads. What about the difference between UK and EU hawkeye STI's?
|
no rear wiper on my jdm hawkeye

Tony:) As for the engine... yes it revs higher but then my UK STi will be long gone due to its so called "lazy" low down torque when you are still sitting revving ;) If you disagree then I'll hopefully be at SSO this year :p As has been said above the differences between JDM and UK spec gets less and less with each model. The classic JDM Impreza was genuinely a much better all round car but now it is horses for courses IMO. |
Shame the JDM produces more torque out of the box ;) and its got 80% available from 2500 rpm ;)
In standard v standard form the JDM is more capable than the UK car, better power delivery etc, even tuned there isnt much in it torque wise, you need to rebuild the 2.5 before it becomes better than the twin scroll unit and 95% of people wont be doing that (even then the 2ltr is still the stronger block). Not knocking the UK car, its good but its not as good as its JDM counterpart. (oh and watch for dodgy headgaskets on those 2.5's ;)) Tony:) PS has anyone mentioned fly by dire (sorry wire ;)) |

Oh! Didn't know that...so if I procure a pair of UK door mirrors can I make my JDM ones heated? Is the wiring in place? Or maybe it's an either/or with the folding mirrors on JDMs?

Its annoying but for the price of de icer its just a little bit of hassle I can live with (well they dont normally get frozen if they are folded in anyway ;)) Tony:) |
the heater on the door mirrors is normally in the lens, you just need to wire them to a relay and connect into the rear heated screen switch, I agree you may have to add 1 wire to each door for the 12v to the the heater.
|
Also if Im not mistaken the uk/euro model front bumper (Hawkeye)has headlight washers the JDM counterpart does not.well the spec-c doesnt.

Tony a little mistake there 5th gear is actually 1.062 max speed :) not that it would make much differance and for the tec buffs reverse 3.545 and deceleration ratio 3.900

Although IIRC the Gearboxes only 1st gear is the same, all others are different ;)
UK Sti 2.0ltr 2.5ltr 1st 3.636 3.636 2nd 2.375 2.235 3rd 1.761 1.521 4th 1.346 1.137 5th 0.971 0.891 6th 0.756 0.707 The EU 2.5 6 spd has very different ratios to make use of the torque. |

Tony, simply so I can check my spreadsheet, where did you get, or how did you calculate, these figures? I agree with the ratios, but the spreadsheet I created gives different speeds @8000 rpm...would like to see if there's an error in my spreadsheet :)
I knew that some were quite right as my JDM will get to 66mph in second, but the UK at 57mph is about right IIRC ;) mabe wort posting your acurrate ones up ;) |

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree again on this one Tony (well except the steering rack and legendary rear wiper). Electric folding mirrors on the JDM too but then I got far more in car gadgets to offset the mirrors and wiper :lol1:

Uk sti has to meet stricter Euro emmission laws & Subaru differentiate the Japanese market with Euro & US, in terms of each individual market's driving needs & ultimately Subarus costs in meeting those needs.
|
Hiya
I got my JDM STI through Juggers and love it! Question for the tech people! For drag strip purposes! Does anyone know the peak rpm to change at? Thanks :) Matt |
If you'v got a rolling road print out that would help a lot. IMO not much goes on above 6,500 rpm in the VF36/37 as it runs out of puff, better to change up into next gear.
|
Yeah thats about when im changing at the mo..
Best so far is 13.04 but I think im being too kind to my clutch on the launch :P Going to get a few mods and rolling road it in April. Cheers |
If you want to be brutal, there's a vid on youtube where I guys manges 0 to 60mph in 3.8 sec on a Vbox or something. IIRC he had difflocked & dropped the clutch at approx 5,000 revs!!
