I have a 1998 (R) Impreza Sport, with less than 40,000 miles on the clock. Whilst in a multi storey carpark going down the ramps it consistently jumps out of gear.
Anyone else experienced this?
Thanks in advance.

uh oh, new gearbox imminent, sounds like the syncromesh is on its way out. My old R1916v use to do this in 2nd, then it lunched itself completely :(

I think it might be a design flaw in Scooby boxes, I've heard of plenty of peoples cars doing this.
Mine did this on slow steep downhill bits since new, you can live with it. Typically this was in roadworks on hills.
I think it's caused by transmission shunt.
I've done 64K miles now and it's not showing any sign of gearbox failure.

There is a small problem with the gearboxes jumping out of selected
gear , mine was replaced under warranty and i would suggest getting your car down to the dealers to have it sorted....ps. subaru uk are aware but they just dont make public the facts..

If your car only jumps out of 1st gear on engine overrun, then there is a tolerence problem with 1st gear, 1st gear syncro hub, and the shaft which supports the layshaft. to cure they all need replacing!!!!!!!!! As far as I know this cannot lead to major problems in the future as we are only talking about a very small difference..
