just need some info on which year is the best year/type 6spd gearbox i need to fit my p1? also what other bits will i need to convert?

Depends what you want, probably the cheapest conversion will be to use a uk 6 speed box. It means just changing the box & linkage

Doesn't matter which 6 speed you get, you'll need to change the rear diff. A P1 final drive front & rear is 4.4:1 and 6 speeders are JDM 3.9 F / 3.9R or UK 3.9F / 3.545 R . The Jap one is short geared and you can often find yourself looking to change into 7th as a result.

The most common one is the regular UK STi 2.0 litre version.

The 2.5 versions are steadily coming available and have a very long 6th gear. They all have electric centre diff control and are currently selling about £2600 - £3000 as a kit of enough parts to convert the car.

The rear diff on a P1 is R160 size [ the small one ] and all 6 speed rear diffs are R180m size. So a whole kit will leave you with a wrong rear diff to suit your car.

Changing the rear hubs and brakes to suit the R180 rear diff is one option- the most expensive option though.

Buying a 3.545 or 3.9 R160 rear diff to make life easy is the best way, but you 'll need to swap over the LSD in the existing P1 rear diff into the ' new diff ' to be able to keep the original set up and drive shafts.

jdm bugeye 6 speed with no dccd

I've got a JDM 6 speeder, cracking ratio's for driving around here ........................just drones a bit on the Motorway as 6th is a bit short LOL

As David says it's tempting to change into 7th ...

I could have *sworn* that reverse was up and to the left like my Citroen C8, very similar cars so an easy mistake to make LOL

not quite as bad as leaving the petrol station at Hardwick Circus (Shell) and deciding to zero the mileometer as I was leaving..........it's difficult to turn the steering wheel with an arm through it and nearly drove through the glass double doors LOL
