Sudden power loss

A few times im out in the subaru ive experianced sudden powerloss

The car smells of petrol and give a bit of a backfire then drives as normal.

somtimes i chucks as if the coils are faulty but ive changed the coils.

Timing also sounds a wee bit off when the petrol smell comes

Could it be spark plugs?

Injectors

, my cover for the camshaft position sensor is lose , could this cause thie aswell ?

It seems to happen when the car is at full running temp

any help?

Hi, its a MY96 Jap import.

Has anybody else experianced this problem?

ive owned car 2 years , never a problem.

when timing belt was being changed , i broke the joint that connects the camshaft position sensor.
