Anyone else stuck on their car in the snow?

Done about 1 mile in the last 4 hrs. Thank god for the iPhone to keep me entertained.

My wife is gridlocked in Basingstoke ..... nothing moving in, or out. Gridlocked in our village ... nothing moving in or out ..... mate of mine has skidded into the ditch.

WRX_Dazza 21 December 2009 08:08 PM

P1Fanatic 21 December 2009 08:10 PM

It's nuts as hardly any snow at all here in Reading.

Jamz3k 21 December 2009 08:14 PM

the Snows gone where i am, but the ice is hitting hard. -1 at the mo and getting colder!

WRX_Dazza 21 December 2009 08:15 PM

tell you what, its safer to drive here, then walk on the icy footpaths, so many are probably using their cars !!!!

EH?

It's Reading which is gridlocked ....... :wonder:

mystery_machine 21 December 2009 08:20 PM

what snow?? we haven't any at all :(

SunnySideUp 21 December 2009 08:22 PM

Well ..... it's madness here in North Hampshire!

Paulo P 21 December 2009 08:30 PM

It's also a joke in Wycombe with nothing moving in or out.

My wife works in Maidenhead and it took her an hour to get out of the public carpark and 3 and a half hours later she still hasn't reached her parents which is only 7 miles away :(

I'm in North Hampshire, and it's not even snowing. :wonder:

P1Fanatic 21 December 2009 08:35 PM

Luckily I have an iPhone charger in the car :)

Reading maybe gridlocked but there is no snow. The roads are mostly just wet. I'm in a Civic Type R and they aren't the best in the snow and I'm managing. A lot of ditched cars to navigate doesn't help.

took me 2.5 hours to get from shurlock row back to finchampstead earlier.

lots of rwd cars going sideways, particularly one of those new mustangs.

should be fun in the morning!

EVOVI 21 December 2009 09:06 PM

3 1/2 hours to do the 13 miles from woking to bracknell..Roads were fine until I got to bagshot and then it was like driving on an ice rink..
Everymain road in and out of Bracknell is blocked cause hardly anyone can get up hills..

f1_fan 21 December 2009 09:12 PM

It's the same just about everywhere, just driving round Rossendale in Lancashire tonight and the roads are so slippery.

I know you will all think I am just moaning again, but this is utterly ridiculous. We are paying more council tax than ever and yet no one seems to be gritting anything other than the main motorways. Round here was always well gritted and in 20 years this is the worst I have seen it, not the worst weather biut simply no gritting means driving conditions are the worst I have seen.

How much is this costing us in lost business and higher insurance premiums??

It is not right, yet we are powerless to do anything about it.:mad::mad:

Go to google maps, zoom in on London, and click traffic!

scarey 21 December 2009 09:16 PM

well f1 fan, I went to my local town, Wokingham to go to the bank at around 2pm. was back in the office just before three and saaid then we should pack up and go. we left 45 mins later and it was too late, carnage. ok we are in the sticks so wouldnt really expect those roads to be gritted, but without having hundreds of gritters out every minute of every day, when it comes down as quickly as it did here not sure what they are supposed to do?

SunnySideUp 21 December 2009 09:16 PM

Well - here - 8 miles North of Basingstoke I can assure you it is at least 5" deep on the paths and ice/snow on the roads!

I am staggered that Reading has no snow ..... but, if you say so? I am but 8 miles from Reading.

What I would like them to do round here is what they used to do up until 3 years ago and grit. Sorry, but this never used tio happen and that isn't just rose tinted spectacles... they aren't even gritting the main routes right now, just the motorway. Now if I was paying 20% less council tax I would be OK about it but I am paying 20% more than 3 years ago so...... why should I not want at least the same level of service if not better?

Moley 21 December 2009 09:26 PM

Just got home after a 3hr+ drive home, and can honestly say i have no idea how i didn't crash.

The local council haven't had any gritters out by the looks of things, have never driven on roads that bad before.

3-4 miles of non-stop ice.

Exactly - this is insane. It really is :(

turbogav 21 December 2009 09:35 PM

girlfriend's stuck on A32 south of alton waiting for a snow plough to clear the road, left guildford at 4pm this afternoon, crazy, all because of a lack of gritting

Coupe-Se 21 December 2009 09:47 PM

Its been snowing non stop in Peterborough for the last 3 hours.

About an inch of snow has fallen on the roads that were wet and is settling into a hard packed icy mush that is lethal to drive on. The gritters appeared around 8:30pm but seems too late and has made no difference to the driving conditions.

Adrian F 21 December 2009 09:50 PM

well we have had another 2" of snow in harlow about 5 pm today but it has stopped now though the weather forecast has said we will get more later tonight so i am glad i wont be driving in it tomorrow.

The councils dont care about keeping the roads gritted. let alone pavements etc.

hoskib 21 December 2009 09:51 PM

not in the snow, but took 4 hours to get out of Bluewater this evening:mad:

took a while to get in, then everything ground to a halt. asked a couple of people to shuffle up a bit so i could get in a parking space, went in for a BK, had a beer and came out 1 1/2hr later and the same people were still next to my car :lol1:

don't know what the problem was but it was chaos. on the plus side the eye candy walking past was fantastic:thumb:

340BHP-WRX 21 December 2009 09:52 PM

No snow at all here in Gloucestershire !

BOB.T 21 December 2009 09:55 PM

I've been out on the roads ALL day, I've seen two Council Gritters (sorry couldn't resist! :D).

I couldn't get out of my road this morning, there isn't even a grit bin anymore!

Less girt these days, without a doubt!

Simon C 21 December 2009 10:08 PM

The difference between 2 councils is amazing.

Herts stretch of the A1m, clear as a bell, beds stretch, 1" of snow. It was like someone drew a line on the road.

But yeah, 1.5 hours to do 26 miles. Did see a muppet stuff 2 alloys into a kerb though, That and the worlds worst display of driving by a wagon and drag unit doing 55mph is near blizzard conditions. He couldnt have stopped even if he'd wanted too.

dpb 21 December 2009 10:08 PM

Do they not just grit the bus routes , motorways and A roads ?

1.5 " snow here - just about gone in the rain - slippery as anything for the above reasons

hey at least the iphone didnt crack in the sub zero temperatures !
