Wiring - Removing Components, Modifying Harnesses

Hi Guys...

Just wondering if anyone who has done cars for track/race use could offer some adivce with regards to the wiring harness. For example I would like to remove any connectors and live feeds to things such as the Air con and rear wiper. Should I just remove any air con fuses and relays to stop power and then tape up connectors? Will there be any issues with the ECU as I know quite often the air con is linked to it in one way or another.

If anyone has any good books, websites or other info that has been useful to you about modifying and constructing wiring harnesses for track/race use please let me know.

Cheers

Gaz

The "link" will only be to allow the ecu to maintain the idle speed as the AC kicks-in and out. If you need to save weight the loom needs stripping, then chop all unwanted cable out. If you just don't need it then pull the fuses.

IMHO

Cheers Dunx,

A bit of weight saving would be good but I know Im gonna have to think this through carefully so not to mess up the whole loom or potentially cause a fire hazard.

Im sure I'll be alright once I get going.

so......its just a case of taking the fuse out if you want to do away with air con?

Does this apply to the TGVs if you remove the butterfly valves?

Im kind of confused by your questions.... are you being sarcastic? lol

I have removed all the air con (pump, both rads, all pipe work etc) so just need to either remove the wiring or get rid of the fuses so non of the wires are live.

As for the TGV's a read about a company that can removed all the gubbins from them (so no butterfly valves, plate, bar) and they also ceramic coat them but not sure what the company was.

Na Gaz,

No bein carstastic pal, haha, just wonderin if its as easy as pullin a fuse...

Don't mean if ye take the fuse out the tgv's vanish, but if you remove them, the wiring off the loom and the motors, the ecu won't trip the CEL and put you into limp mode...

Ceramic coatin?? Not an intercooler delete mate haha.

When you take the TGV's out and leave them disconnected the DTC (trouble code) relating to the error the ECU will throw can be switched off via remap so you don't see a CEL.

Unplugging the TGV's or taking the fuse out, or stripping the wiring loom will throw a CEL.

Ah, didnae think it'd be so easy.....

Cheers though,
