Why buy another BOV?

Hi guys!

I temporarily switched back to the OEM blow off valve after i had some probs with my Forge dump valve (was getting loads of surge on load), and the car is running great! Feels a lot more responsive and spool-ier. Im running the OEM blow off valve without recirculation as im Map based and my question is:

Why buy another blow off valve? Is there any risks with running the OEM one to atmosphere? (maybe its not made for that?)

I dont feel like im losing any pressure on full boost (approx 1.4 bar).

Was ready to get the HKS SSQV but not sure if there's any reason.

Cheers

Mike

I changed from a HKS ( it came with it already fitted ) to a standard recirculating one and and it Just seems a better car all round now

I used an OE my01 DV as a VTA and with a MAf it stalled as soon as the engine was warm, so it was drawing in unmetered air during vacuum, which is also unfiltered air.

You don't state which MY you DV is, if its the plastic early type they are not reliable once the boost is upped, IIRC 1.2 bar they can leak

Mines a 92 MY running 1.5 bar boost.

Running the standard plastic one

My car is an MY00 european turbo and the OEM Bov is the metal one off a '04 STI.

What do you think? Is there any risk if it draws in air under vacuum if im MAP based?

Guys, has anyone else tried the OE recirc valve (vented to atmosphere) on a MAP based car?

Tried the car again and it runs great. Cant believe i had the vta bov on for so long!

Just not sure if im damaging the car! (Motec was mapped with my forge bov on)

Thanks!

Mike
