Doesn't handle in the snow!
 

Who's going to be the first to post that they can't drive their Scooby flat out in the snow this year LOL

Off to work now. 5.15am and 3 inches of fresh white stuff and 28 miles to go cross country. Should be fun on GSD3's :(

left my close on to the side road thru some width restrictions and had to slow for the round about at the end doing no more than 5-7 mph gently touched the brakes and the ABS went mental, car got sideways and i fish tailed in to a kerb :( no real damage just a chunk out my tyre. properly annoyed.

I'm hoping we get snow at home. I live about 8 miles from dublin airport, on a relatively steep hill.
Would be fun if the sti is the only car (bar proper jeeps) that can get back up the road. :norty: 4wd and LSD, and lock centre diff.

Most of you kiddies can't drive in the dry, let alone when there is a dusting of snow - just line up behind us old boys, the real men who were driving when driving was for men ...... ;)

I was OK on 400bhp and Parada's and that close by heathrow.

Name of the game is to take it easy and give your self plenty of time.

Have to say I prefer driving a FWD car in the snow without snow tyres than a Subaru(when having a bit of fun). Except uphill of course!

Summer tyres and snow = SIAC

As Steve says, only way to avoid trouble is to make slow progress and allow much longer for everything to happen.....either that or get some proper winter tyres on the car! :)

Its my fault it snowed!
I had just fitted my new Winter tyres!
Great fun driving, good grip, even better braking than I thought would be possible.
Everybody should have them and stop moaning about lack of gritters.

Tyres Very good in the wet too.

We live in Scotland but first time I have bought winter tyres, will never go back now!
This weekend polishing the summer alloys after more fun in the snow!

Actually after spending the last 6 years nursing the scooby about during winter, i was expecting the ZS180 to be utter crap this morning, crap make tyres, big 18" wheels, and FWD i was expecting to be a nightmare, and i got into work with no issues at all :Suspiciou

Maybe the crap tyres are crap, because they only excel in the snow :lol1:

I left my scooby covered thick in snow this morning and cycled to work.

My cousin crashed his Focus RS this morning.

think he's been reading too many car magazine and took the "its as good as four wheeel drive" quote literally.

He asked me to collect him, he's really cut up about it. I remember when I had a Honda Accord Type R, the front diff made the car a nightmare in the snow, I hit quite a few kerbs in the snow.

what I have found it even 4WD will slip for a few feet but with find grip in snow and you're off again- you just have to be sensible and keep well away from kerbs and other cars.

Its only when you drive a FWD again you notice how much grip, even in the damp, a 4WD car provides - there is no substitute.

Problem is: it will only find you grip under power; people get suckered in by this and forget that the advantage is lot when braking.....as many have found out to their expense. :cry:

Thought I would show off this morning, as I pulled out of the minor road - I applied the hanbrake to snap 90 degrees and look good ....... black ice!!! :eek:

The car span around twice on the slope and I ended up on the pavement facing the wrong way ..... I would like, via these pages, to apologise to the gentleman walking his dog and I hope he found a way out of the garden he jumped into!

I took "her-indoors" Jeep today, 'cos of the dog, and the hills and the snow.
The part-time 4WD didn't even "kick-in" to help. New tyres last month you see. Had to beat "her next door but one" out tho', as last winter she spun and stalled her diesel Audi across the (only) access road from this development :brickwall

Work and back no probs, only 7 minutes late and the boss was 1 1/2 hours late in his Jeep and lives local LOL. Worst bit was actually leaving Ramsey and the forty foot drain. After I got to the main roads boredom set in as I got stuck behind a Vectra desperately trying to stay off the kerbs. Went round the March roundabout TWICE for a laugh and then caught up the Vectra again, then got stuck behind a gritter.

It's great when you are amongst the first out on the snow before it gets compacted and I find the pre 6 o'clock morning traffic has more idea about driving than the 9-5 commuters.

Secret as above, good traction (even on GSD3's) just stay off the brakes. Actually found it very controllable and great fun :) Think those who say that Scoobs are crap in snow are probably expecting too much, mine handles well enough....


For those of you timing I have just got back in and got out of the bath. Long days here, and the same again tomorrow, sigh.

im impressed for the ones who have ABS and airbags and traction control etc,owning a 95 wrx i forgoe those luxuries,good fun tho

Rig, abs in these conditions aint a luxury, its a death trap.

Just remove the ABS fuse like i have and say goodbye to it's over sensitivity. The worst thing about removing the ABS fuse is having the ABS and brake warning light permanently on. Small price to pay to keep you from not stopping until you're in the middle of a busy road.

My journey to work was fine, i am running on yoko paradas and i used the C.Diff on Lock and it pulled up the hills piece of cake. there was a bit of sliding but it found grip every time only problem was the ABS was going bonkers lol. i thought it were never going to stop, good job i was taking it easy! overall a nice drive and quite amusing watching the array of FWD drivers struggling for grip and leaving their cars with the hazards on abandoned.
With some decent winter tyres and the diff lock i would imagine it being an amazing drive in the snow.

Wish I was brave enough to do that. On MY09, pulling the abs fuse takes out the traction control too!!!!
