Don't buy based on the DOT rating alone.

We stock both Motul 5.1 and Motul RBF600.

Always use Motul here. Take a look at: AZTEC PERFORMANCE ONLINE STORE - WHOLESALE PRICES DIRECT TO THE PUBLIC - Brakes :: Subaru Impreza :: Performance Friction Discs & Pads :: Motul RBF600 High Temperature Brake Fluid (500ml Bottle)

another vote for the RBF...

the Dot rating is very misleading as some race brake fluids won't pass the Dot test so would appear to be "worse" than discount centre stuff
as with most items you need to base your purchase on your own requirements of use(track, road, combo, etc.) and driving style

If you have 5.1 in, can you top it up with 4?

cusco kid 11 December 2009 08:28 PM

dot 4

hi m8 if you are only using the car for road use dot 4 is good enough
spec is SAEJ 1703 . of if you are using it for track days or sprints useATE blue racing fluid ,availabe from Compbrake .
you can use dot 4 to flush out the system ,then empty the master cylinder ,pour in ATE .when the fluid goes from amber to blue give the brake pedal another couple of pumps then close off the bleed nipple . repeat this at all calipers starting at the n/s rear

yes dot3, 4 and 5.1 are all compatible although by mixing then you are "losing" the better fluids abilities to a degree, so preferably always use like for like (as you would engine oil)

its only confusing moniker dot5 that you need to stay away from but as this is extremely unusual no 'norma' shops would stock anyhows...............

Dot5 is still pretty popular with museums, and the US military but thats it. As stock car said you unlikley to come accross it and if you do dont bother with it.

To the OP as you can see Motul is very popular, the RBF600 and the DOT5.1 however the Millers you are looking at will be just fine.

Cheers
