Now I am confused :confused: about the whole thing. What are the problems as you see it?

You probably already have what you need but i travelled across Australia in 1999/2000. and can probably tell you everything you need to know.

As for entry. depends if your working over there or going for a holiday. or whichever variables. If working... be honest. If not, just have an address of somewhere you can stay, and say your over visiting friends or there for a holiday and to see the sights.

Temporary Business Visas:
These visas allow stays of up to 4 years, allowing you and your family to reside in Australia to develop a business. You must already have a business background and sufficient net assets to be approved under these categories.


Retirement:
If you are over 55 years of age and are of good health and have sufficient capital, you may qualify for a Temporary Retirement Visa. Validity period of 4 years, renewable for further 2 years periods.


Prospective Spouse: (fiancé)
Where an Australian citizen sponsors a member of the opposite sex to come to Australia to marry the sponsor. After arrival in Australia the couple must marry within 9 months. The applicant and sponsor must satisfy the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA) that the relationship is totally genuine. The applicant may include dependent children in the application.


Working Holiday:
Australia has reciprocal working holiday arrangements with the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Korea and Malta for young people wanting to holiday and travel within Australia and have the opportunity to work to supplement their funds.

A friend of mine is emigrating there after spending 2 years there and is trying to talk me into it.
I've been through lots of the forms with him and basically if your in IT your laughing!

There is a form you can download which you fill in whereby they decide on your suitablility, you have to score i think it was 120 points. (it even rather daftly tells you what boxes score what points) IT staff gets a bonus of 50 points for the start.

I went through it and scored about 180.

Also a little while ago if you had 20k in the bank that also granted you instant access, there used to be a big board in the oz embassy in london advertising that fact, 20k got you straight to the front of the queue, worth checking to see if thats still the case.

i did have some urls for all this, will try and dig them up for you.

I'm also interested in seeing this form (I work in IT....) ;)

I'm looking forward to my return visit next January. Just is a better lifestyle than here I think. Lots of Brits there, they would never come back and they don't even know what phony tony has done to us.

My younger bro. in law worked in Bermuda for 15 years, then Australia.
He's recently come back to the St Helens area, due to wife who couldn't settle away from her family.
He wishes he hadn't!!! He reckons that we live in the "no can do" society!!!

well as probably read above i was also looking into this. but unfortunately from an IT point of view, the worldwide IT recession hit Australia as well and the number of IT jobs on the wanted list went from 120 or so in May down to about 10 currently.

and for you to be in that 10 you need to be of a VERY experienced nature and highly qualified.

Sheesh, why bother I spent 30 years trying to get out... its just another state of America now and has all the associated problems..

When I was applying for a full residency visa 2 years ago we used an agent. He was a great help and knew all the in's and out's. Think he worked for Immigration Dept in the past.

I thought I could get in with my IT skills and experience but apparently you need a degree to back this up. I eventually got in due to the fact I was married to a former resident!!!

We was all set to move to Brisbane (where all the wifes family is) and I thought it would be a good idea to check the contract/permie market. Good job I did because of all the agencies I contacted they had about 3 positions between them.

I was told the situation is better in Sydney and maybe Melbourne. I don't think things are much better now. We ended up staying here (due to a good contract popping up on my doorstep) and are currently waiting for things to pick up.

As for having money as a golden ticket - not so. My sister-in-laws father lives in Dover and has been trying to get in for over 2 years. He's retired, has about £100,000 in capital, and is being sponsered, but still they won't let him in.

The Oz government are now very selective as to who they let in and to where. They encourage certain ethnic groups to settle in the likes of Perth so they can balance things out.

Hope some of the above helps.

I am hoping to go over on a student visa at first as I wish to study a degree over there.

After that, who knows, if I like it, I will stay, if not, then back to the good old UK.

Urmmm. This is what I would do. Go to OZ on one year tourist visa....find some dumb doris pay her A$10000 to marry you. I KNOW from experience that this works....have to spend a year in close proximity to the victim but you get in !!! with all the perks. Just an idea.

Been away myself - just back from San Francisco - Come on the Giants ;) Sounds like a year to try b4 you buy is best :D
