Which Harness?

Hi,

Its about time i got some 4 point harnesses for the scoob for the track.

Can they be used with the stock STI seats. is the hole sufficient/ can they be fitted without fabrication/inline with stock intertia reel belt?

Links to any good ones would be useful. I suppose i require fia approved 3"?

Hmm looks like i need to go for a 4point FIA approved harness. Will this work with the stock seat?

Any links.recommendations?

Have a look at the Demon Tweeks catalogue (paper or online). Generally you replace existing inertia reel bolts with eyebolts supplied with harness kit and keep inertia reel belt attachments under these if you want. Top straps attach to rear belt mounting points under rear seat so not rear passenger friendly. I once had 2" belts through STi seats no prob and I guess 3" will be OK as well, can't say for sure as I've changed my seats. BTW all the inertia reel belts weigh about 10 kgs, my car is only for track so I've taken them all out. Put 2.2 ohm resistors from Maplin in belt tensioner connections to keep airbag light out.

ok thanks for the advice.

Yeah mines not dedicated track but does get tracked a fair bit.

forgot about demon tweeks. merlin want 300 for fia approved.

Seems fia approved = not road legal so would have to keep normal belts in too..

TRS 3" 4 point for me.

As long as they are E marked you will be legal.

AFAIK a road legal belt must able to be operated with one hand.
God only knows why, are you in so much of a hurry that you can't use two hands ?

Strictly the law says they should be button operated. This makes my Sabelt harness illegal because it has a lever mechanism. Law is because someone might not be able to understand how to operate in an emergency. Frankly if someone has this problem they shouldn't be allowed out in public.

God probably doesn't know why either, perhaps we should say Gordon knows why.

I have a luke 5 point FIA harness working with my stock seat and it holds you in perfect :D I only use mine for track work and just tuck it behind the seat for the road so I can use my normal belt. I wouldn't like to use it for driving on the roads as you really can't move when its belted up :)

You cut your seat then for the crutch strap?

stevebt 07 December 2009 09:47 PM

No as I just use it as a 4 point harness untill I get another set of front seats
