torque wrench settings for brembo calipers
HI, doing my discs and pads (fronts) next week on my blob sti, does anyone know the torque wrench settings for the main caliper bolts in ft/lbs please, also anything special to know like locktight on the threads ? ,Cheers Rob.

Manual says 113 ft-lb but Alyn (ASPerformance) reckons this is excessive and recommends 75 ft-lb, he uses this on Group N cars that he prepares and has no trouble. I've used 75 as well with no probs, I use medium loctite in lipstick form from Halfords which seals the threads and is easy to remove.
One warning is that there have been cases of dud bolts ruining the thread in the caliper when you remove them. I had this happen and had to get caliper helicoiled. |
Thanks mate for that reply thats a big help, might let the good garage i've got do it, done it on a few other cars ,but have no time + dont want the hassle of the helicoils, will give it some thought over the next few days . Cheers Rob.:thumb:

Just remembered my car had new discs/pads on it when i bought it 3years ago , would this have shown up + been sorted then ?

I got my brembo's cheap from a Subaru main dealer mechanic. He said that they tend to be over tourqued at the factory, so when they remove the bolts to change the pads, it ends up stripping the calipers thread. Hence me getting them cheap because they are helicoiled out, but the customer gets a brand new caliper.
So hopefully yours have been sorted since new. |
Rob, if someone has got them off successfully in the past then I expect you will be OK. Its an easy job if you don't have the bolt problem. BTW its worth removing pads from these Brembo calipers for a good clean every 6 months as they tend to get jammed with deposits/dust.
