"Temp" files.
 

Can I just delete these files which are just taking up space on C drive?

I believe these are loaded by a new application and once said application is up and running they become obsolete.

But I need reassurance :)

These are on my daughter's laptop. I have told her to get an external drive for back-up which she needs anyway to protect her uni work.

And any advice on where to get a reasonable inexpensive external drive would be welcome (Amazon?). Doesn't need to be mega huge.

I always delete anything with the .tmp extension...

just run CC cleaner and let it do the rest

Yep. Ccleaner for me too. But *IF* you like forum sites, SN for instance, being able to *remember* you go to Options/Cookies and keep the ones you don't want deleted.

So how does she find Ccleaner? Is this part of XP? I bought her Kaspersky 2010 for general bugs. So cookies are under .tmp files then or have I misunderstood?

She won't want to lose access to things like Facebook, MSN and her uni sites.

Any thoughts on an external drive source?

CCleaner - Download - it clears loads of 'guf' from your drive. Temporary internet files, recent viwed docs, cookies, etc etc. But you can customise it to just remove what you want it to remove. She won't lose access to Fartbook etc, if she doesn't 'save' the cookie she'll just have to login the next time she visits. Not such a bad idea at uni. with lots of *mates* about having a *lark* .....
