Why isn't there a picture of the whole IC?

Nothing to indicate whether that's a classic STi intercooler or a newage.

If it's a newage (which is what it looks like), I have a sneaking suspicion someone is trying to pass off a WRX IC as something it ain't, as those stickers look as though they're stuck on after the fact.

Could be, but hardly surprising it failed to attract many bidders given the photograph and (lack of) description. Hope the buyer doesn't end up disappointed.
