help needed yet again please
hi yes help needed again my impreza has now started to rev up to 2000rpm then down to about 1500rpm if i unplug the maf it cuts out
please please could someome put some light my way as im going mad :mad: and im new to subaru's and just havin lots of probs at the mo:cry: o its a 1994 impreza awd import |
possibly the idle control valve needs a clean.

Mine was doing exactly the same a good clean with brake and clutch cleaner should help.undo the four bolts slip it back of manifod but dont undo the water pipes and give it a really good spray and clean with a rag put back on and hoefuly should idle about 1000 ish rpms

Why are you unplugging the MAF when the engine is running? That's an easy way to damage it.
When you say it revs up to 2000 and then back down, does it do this all the time, or just when the engine is cold, or just when it's hot, or..? Also has this started to happen all of a sudden or has it come on gradually? As a general point, btw, anyone buying a 15 year old high performance, low cost car, and who doesn't expect the odd hiccup, is being a little unrealistic. |

mine died on me after a week of getting it on the road cost £300 to sort it, i was well sick but now it's back up and running i'm loving it

yeah think i have drove this about 3-4 times think thats what makes me sick to i just love driving it but cant at the mo owell the joys of motoring

i found that my car ran alot better with the maf unplugged when it was fecked, just went into limp mode and ran ok. with it plugged in it did alsorst of strange things |

The specific old wives tale Dan seems to have been following is the one that goes "Start the engine, unplug the MAF. If the engine stalls, the MAF is good, if it doesn't, the MAF is knackered" It's that ^ specific procedure I was talking about. It's bull, proves nothing, other than the willingness of some folk to believe anything they read on the internet without thinking. |
