Flu Jabs - Not a priority then

I Have been offered a flu jab - long story short i was given a painkiller i wwas allergic to which subsiquently made me very ill - not helped by the fact that MY GP at the time did not spot what was wrong each and every time i went back to see them. Taken into hospital with my lungs full of fluid and heart rate of 210BPM whilst sitting still.
Fortunately on the mend now but still not 100%

Letter arrived yesterday from the (new) GP's asking me to call to book an appointment with the surgery for a jab. I called this morning at 8.am, next avaliable date they can do is the 17th December..

So, are they a priority for who have underlying health issues or not, 5 weeks wait for a jab!?! and at the GP's, not even the hospital.

Mates girlfreind got the ordinary flu jab and he got the swine flu jab ( a good 1/3 of the time he complains of having a 'cold' anyway ), mus been within a couple weeks - she got the swine flu ,apparently, and he got another couple weeks offf

goodness knows what each of them actually suffered from....

Hes 54 ? shes 44 .? btw

i got a letter a week or so back but threw it in bin as i thought the nest advice was not to take the namiflow stuff or whatever it is as its long term unproven?

ive had asthma since 2 yrs old so i presume thats why they sent me one

Sorry for that unpleasant time you had Paul.

I expect they are waiting for their next allocation of the vaccine.

Very funny that Dave got a letter from the docs saying he is recommended to have one, but I haven't. I can only think that he's had a knee operation this year... Or maybe it's because he had cancer 20 years ago? Dunno what the criteria is... I had an op 5 weeks ago too!

i had swine flu jab today, they rang on Thursday to say they left me off the list and can come in.

I've had letters for both Swine flu and normal flu jabs. Put them in the bin.

Don't see the point tbh.

You will if you catch either one of the illnesses!

Thanks Les, it was/is not nice - The hospital have been brilliant, cannot fault NGH and the treatment there at all:)

Have thought about having the jab for a couple of days now andI am in two minds about the jab TBH, being my problem is heart related i am leaning towards having it

The letters for normal flu are sent out as a matter of course to anyone over 65 (or 60.......I should know, seeing as I work at the surgery! :o), and anyone who has had chest infections etc.

John Banks would be the chap on here with the answers. :)

ScoobyDoo555 14 November 2009 06:51 PM

Well, I'm nowhere near 60, but I have had both chest and heart problems :D

I'm just of the mind that I don't need any more sh1t!! :D

I think the bigger branches of Boots will give you a flu jab if you want one in a hurry.

I had mine at GPs a couple of weeks back and having Swine thingy on Monday. Hope you are on the mend Paul. d

Yes I see your point of course. I have to admit that I would not be too sure about the swine flu jab after all we have been told about it!
