put new speaker cable in, at least oxygen free stuff as the subaru stuff will not be very good quality, and as for power/earth etc. Get a cheap voltage tester from Tandy, u never know when u`ll need it again anyway, or use a bulb with 2 wires hooked up to it.

I have an STI V Type R, with no stereo or speakers, I am about to install an Alpine 1505R Head unit and 2 pairs of Infinity Kappa 65CS speakers. As this is an import I was wondering if anyone knows the colour codes for power and speaker cables(if any), or is it worth putting in new speaker cable?

The following site has some info on colour codes for the wiring. There is also an update for the 99MY cars (which applies to the STi V). It might not be 100%, but it would certainly be a good starting point.

What size and model of speakers are you installing, I am getting my Type R next month and want to get some quotes for speakers.

Tel,
I have just replaced the stereo on my 99 UK car. It looks like the car has a standard block which links power etc and then depending on where it is exported to, a further block adapter is connected to match the importers (IM)chosen stereo. Point is Autoleads (amongst others I imagine) sell a block to match the factory block which using bullet connectors can be matched to any wiring loom you chose. Hope this makes sense. Regards IanF |
Just put a 1505R in a MY99 and the block connectors provided match up perfectly so, unless the Jap spec cars have different wiring, you should be in luck. But probably best to check anyway ;]

Thanks, I fitted everything a couple of weeks ago using Autoleads and it works and sounds great.
