Paint problems.
 

Hi all,

haveing my front and rear bumpers repaintedand the guy doing it, from work etc, had a problem where when the bumper was painted, it started to react, peel etc in certin areas. He thinks it may be water based paint etc. Is there anyone who knows and knows good primers or selants to use etc?

Water based paints shouldnt react with anything. Did he put the laquer on if so this is more likely to be the problem.

did he prepp the he bumpers beforehand as the would cause a reaction with waterbased paints if not prepped
take em to a proper painter he should be able to tell u

He is a proper painter as we build trucks etc. The reaction was as soon as the paint went on to top of the original paint where the original paint had been rubbed down to the plastic etc

take it right back to the base coat, then when you apply the coat of paint put 2 really light dust coat on then paint it.

all areas where have been rubbed thro should have been primmed 2k ?
feathered out based up watter base or good old 2k then your clear coat and all shoud look well nothing worse than bad reaction good luck:thumb:

A plastic primer "should" be used or a 2 pack etch or high build primer.

I take it the paint never stuck to the plastic?

Remember to use a soft face additive.

mate i am a painter in bodyshop and if it is reacting then its because it has had some form of paintwork done on it before,it is only solvents that react with each other so wont be waterbase but maybe cheap paint,you can either flat it back and dust the paint over till it covers it,or what i would do is use a good 2k primer 3 coats let dry overnight then flat and paint,your painter should know this and should have seen this many times,i have lol.

He said he was going to use a 2 pack primer. He said it seemed to me where the standard paint he was using came in to contact with the original base coat.
