just bought a ps3......
being a cheapskate went for a 80GB non-slimline model
appears to have a s/w version from 1983 installed so now updating to version 3.o.1 which looks like it will take about 4 days. Anyone had any problems with this or should I just be patient? Thanks! |
just be patient I'm afraid, you'll get used to life with updates, PS3 is terrible for them, almost every time you turn on or play a game!
|
thanks scoobyjawa
it failed at 30% will give it tonight to update, if not tomorrow it's back for a refund and stick to the 360! |
Is it hardwired to your modem?
also download the update using your PC and put it on a memory stick then update the PS3 |
thats the one problem with the ps3 that it takes forever to load things but when you get graphics alot better than the 360's and the silence of not having a helicopter landing near your telly, you'll love it.
|
Hmm I have never had a problem with slow downloading updates for firmware or games :\

I've had to leave it on over an hour before to download updates!!
As for worth it coz the graphics are so much better, I suggest you look at some comparison sites that compare 360 vs PS3 versions of games ;) Ghostbusters is a big case in point, developed for the PS3 but the 360 version gfx runs rings round it! |

now it took so long so do this download yesterday I never got to play the game (Infamous) before going out!
Today 'cos I like driving games I bought Burnout Paradise and it's telling me I need another download!! And this one is taking even longer than yesterday's and I have a 6.35am flight from Heathrow tomorrow so probably wont play this game either! Is this actually a games console on an expensive downloading machine???!!! :cuckoo: |

i took a stupidly expensive phone agreement to get a PS3 for "free" and what a load of junk it was. I think i kept it for 3months. Ol' Bessie360 is a console i could never sell, its just too good!
|
I got the ps3 purely cos I really like the gran turismo series and GT5 is out next month. Just beginning to think it will take a month of downloading to be able to play it!
up to 71% now  |

I've a PS3 and mines been great...uploads take sometime but are worth the wait (longest I've had was 50 mins when I first got it on-line plus another 10 mins updating my COD:W@W game). I'd recommend the PS3 over a 360 anyday and I've played both a lot. If your uploads are taking ages OP have you checked the connection strength....maybe that would slow it alittle. Don't really know other than that but hope you get to play a game oneday soon:D:thumb: |
well my laptop is showing a 54mps speed connected to the same router.
does the ps3 come witha default "download as slowly as possible" setting I need to change? |

up to 71% now  Gran Turismo 5 (2010) If you want to buy a good game next month I'd recommend Modern Warfare 2 which is out on November the 11th but it's going to be popular so you might find it hard to find. Thats a shooting game though and if you're after a driving game I'm playing Colin Mcrae Dirt 2 at the moment which is a good driving game.:thumb: edit: yeah not sure on the download default  Seriously though checking the settings might be a wise idea |

You could always get the GT5 "Prologue" to wet your appetite.
http://uk.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/g...ue/review.html I not bothering though because I'm saving myself for the full game :D |

Mine is one of the original Elites and its suprisingly held out well unlike my 3 previous Premium consoles:o each one lasted no more than 3months a time.:lol1: Girlfriend brought me home forza3 last night but i'm a bit ill so aint got round to playing it, so no doubt when i feel better, i'll sling her on, only to get RROD'd.:lol1:
Hope you get better soon and are able to fully enjoy Forza3....it looks good from what I've seen.:thumb: |

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review for PlayStation 3 - GameSpot I not bothering though because I'm saving myself for the full game :D |
got two xbox 360s ( long story) and had no problems with either. Although to be fair only ever played Oblivion on either of them.
Wasnt going to bother with gt5 prologue, the price for what you get compared to the full game always made me think they just wanted a bit of revenue to finish the full game. I'm on 96% now :luxhello: |
Take your PS3 back to the store and get a refund and while your there buy Forza 3.
|
richie001 very tempting idea apart from the number of 360s got RRODs when the last forza game came out, which was why I didnt buy it!
hmm...would appear that download percentage was just for the first of SEVEN files   will leave it running whilst away next week hopefully downloading might have finished by the time I get back on Friday.....dont think I'll hold my breath mind you! |
