Fault Code P0171

Just been and had my car read and came back with that faut code which is Bank 1 fuel too lean..

Whats the most common cause of this?

DamEscort 29 October 2009 05:16 PM

Not sure on the fault code but i would of said your best bet would be to have the code cleared and see how it runs or see if the same code comes up again. You dont know whats happened with the car and the previous owner so the part that has caused the problem could of been replaced already.

Get the codes cleared then take the car for a drive and see how it runs, then get the codes read again to see if anythings come back up.

Just did... Cleared the code but still runs the same as it did??

Does it put the EML back on again as well? Did you recheck the codes and get the same one up again?

Hard one to really check, maybe trying cleaning the MAF and checking that none of the vacume pipes are lose or damaged. Does the car drive ok?

Check the bung that goes to below the intercooler is in place and also the hose that goes to the dumpvalve.

1 last thing is the dump valve a "forge"

tazz229 29 October 2009 06:59 PM

What as in fake or forged lol please forgive me for soundin stupid.... Yeah the bung is there its a big alu cap, and yes the smaller hose is also in place..

scoobyhoobydoo 29 October 2009 07:06 PM

Forge is a make, on occasions the springs inside can become tired and allow air to escape and cause issues.

As this just happend out of the blue I would suggest taking it to a specialist and getting them have a look as running lean is bad and can = new engine :(

P0171 can be caused by a faulty lambda sensor.

Its the one bolted in the exhaust manifold, swap it with a mates if you can to check as they are quite expensive.

If your car is a newage, I'm almost certain that was the cause of your engine warning light.

If it comes on again with the same code then have a look at that.
