Newbie needs help EML light Lack of Turbo boost
Right im new here guys so go easy wid all the technical terms i just bought my first WRX today on a 52 plate and have a slight problem (already)...
The car is generaly in mint condition inside and out not a mark to be seen and has covered 48k with a full service history. Its completely standard apart from a dump valve! After parting with a tidy sum of money on the return journey home after exiting a roundabout at a reasonable speed (as ya do with a new motor to see what its like), the EML light decided to light up and stay on constanly (that being the one above the temp guage, not sure if there's another). Since then there is a distinct lack of boost from the turbo it's trying to go but seems to be holding back a bit like a flat spot if you will. If i depress the accelerator really gently and ease it on it seems to go a little better but if i simply put my foot flat to the floor it doesn't. Very occasionaly it will lift of and go like stink but as soon as i change gear its back to the flat spot again! Any ideas what this could be any help would be greatly appreciated :notworthy Ps i filled it with super unleaded too :) |
Was it low on fuel (below a third of a tank) when you did this roundabout at speed?

ok not fuel surge then. what super did you use? sounds like your going to need to get the fault codes read
|
Just the expensive unleaded from texaco....
What sort of price am i looking at to get codes read? Is it a main dealer job? |
no anyone with an eobd reader can read them>I have one here if your near Herts?
Most will tell you including me stick with shell v-power or tescos 99ron they dont seem to like much else although i doubt this is your problem on a standard car> It definatly hasnt been re-mapped has it? |

Just been into town to pick the wife up and tried to give it some beans and it did try and go with a bit of throttle tickleing but when the pedal gets to about mid way it seems to die then if i floor it it tries to go almost like a misfire but not if that makes any sense... |
No go and eml = limp mode by the sounds.
Dealer is your easiest option, especially if there is an underlying fault there. Tony:) |

i would check all the hoses on the boost side and inlet tract> one probably come off or split> even the small ones boost soloniod/actuator etc> its sounds like its taking in air that the maf isnt measuring

Managed to just abourt run it out of the Texaco fuel and filled up with V Power and there's a remarkable difference!!! Still a couple of little twitches but i imagine thats the old stuff in there.. So fingers crossed all might be well!
