help please, car reving high in all gears

need advice please, my car has started to rev high in all gears. when im changing gear the engines revs to over 5000 revs with no power for about 3 seconds then the power will suddenly kick in. could this be a clutch problem? its like u still have your foot on the clutch. could the clutch plate be slipping or is it something else. any info would be great help, also wot would this cost to be fixed and would i have to replace like for like as i have an AP racing clutch fitted at the mo.

does sound like the clutch to be honest

Could be the clutch sticking on the input shaft or the slave cylinder sticking. Get someone to operate the clutch whilst you look in the engine bay. to see if the release fork travels part way then moves a few seconds after.

cheers guys for replies, took car in garage and yes i need a new clutch and flywheel skimmed. thing is the clutch is only 4 years old. i only had the car 5 months and i had the head gasket go last month. had that fixed plus new rad fitted, now the clutch. now i have never thrashed the car since had it and the garage are saying that the car must have been taken on track days to cause this sort of damage. is this true or is 4 yrs a good life span for an AP racing clutch?
