200 mph four door saloon on Driven last night - didn't Dutton Kit Cars make a Phaeton in the 80's?
:D |
I have seen the new VW Phaetons in Geneva this week.
They are very impressive and dare I say it, even attractive looking. You just need to look at 'touches' like the boot hinge mechanism to see that VW are deadly serious about this car. PS. I hope Dutton got some cash out of them. ;) |
'Phaeton' is just a word for a certain type of horse-drawn carriage (like 'Sedan')
Cord did a 'Phaeton Sedan' in the 30s. |
I hope I'm not rocking the boat but that would have made it a 'Sedan Sedan' then?
Yours Truly, Stephen 'Kofi Kofi' Read ;) Sorry. It is Friday! |
Nearly forgot..in 1982/3 Dutton Cars produced the Sierra and I remember Tim Dutton (MD of Dutton Cars) going to court against Ford over the name.....can anyone guess who won :D ?

No, sedan is a type of chair actually (I think one of those ones that have four poles and are carried along by two people). I just pointed out that the etymology was similar.
(Actually, the reason I know this is because I had a matchbox model of one when I was a kid and it had the longest title I'd ever seen on a car. It said "1937 Cord Model 812 Supercharged Convertible Phaeton Sedan ", which is actually 8 characters longer than "2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Sti Type UK Prodrive Style" ;) ) [Edited to say I thought it was Boutras Boutras, not Kofi Kofi] [Edited by carl - 3/15/2002 5:43:38 PM] |
;)
You are right of course. I'd just assumed that all UNSG's have to have duplicate first and second names following the precendent set by Mr.Ghali. I'll get my coat. |
