Windows 7 CD arrived! Upgrade or reinstall?
Hmm. . .
My Windows 7 DVD has arrived & I'm contemplating doing an in-place upgrade to my existing Vista 64 install. Anyone done this? J |
Personally, I'd always do a fresh install. Who knows what rubbish will be left laying around after an upgrade.
|
Likewise. I did clean Win7 install last night.
Edit: I took an image using VMware vCenter Converter first though :D |
I read an article on BBC news today about an upgrade, and it was horrendous!
I can see a lot of casual users going the 'easy' upgrade path having a really bad time. Geezer |
The upgrade was okay (I tried it), but decided to do a fresh install as it is good practice every so often and I've got it down to a fine art now!

Another vote for a fresh install

As I'm running some odd hardware I'll take a backup - do an inplace upgrade & see what's broken.
Then do a full reinstall. |
That was easy.
Ran the Upgrade Advisor Tool - just to make sure my RAID card would be happy. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor And it was. Backup, format & reinstall - in about 25 minutes. For a NEW OS, there was already 150meg's worth of patches! J |
If you can do a fresh install its always best, been running windows 7 since it was beta in march and rebuilt with each new disc i got to keep things clean and now running 7 Enterprise. 150Mb of patches ? was that mainly drivers because a fresh install on my laptop only had about 20Mb to do and they were mainly drivers :)

I must admit I didn't look - just hit OK and went for dinner :)
