Puff The Magic Wagon! 16 February 2001 11:36 PM

Can't go in the "For Sale" forum & definately doesn't come under "Wanted"...

As many of you know, sprog, wife & myself commute to London every day. Most of the time this is in the Vectra ( http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif ) but sometimes PTMW! gets a blast.

Bottom-line is that I am fed up of road rage inside the car http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Twice today, we've had blazing arguments & neither time am I at fault ('cept in her eyes http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif ).

1) Waiting to turn right off Highway, E1 into Cartwright St for nursery. Wait 'til oncoming traffic is clear (100+ yds to bend) & begin right turn. By the time I'm 1/4 across road (1/2 over 1st of 2 lanes) biker comes round corner at 45/50 mph http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif I'm committed, so scoot for junction ASAP - biker panics & heads straight at me as opposed to keeping in his lane - I make Cartwright St without him hitting me. Phew! Park o/side nursery & wife says "Don't do that again!" What???? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif I started manoevre on a clear road, with no bugger in sight!

2) On the way home, stuck on A12 coming upto Whipps Cross. Mirror, indicate, check again (clear as car on o/s letting me in) & begin to move into o/s lane (10/12 mph). Biker previously well far back, but rushing down the middle of the traffic gives it large on his horn well in advance of being anywhere near me, wife squeeks, & I'm already 1/2 across. Check again & continue to move as biker not in any danger from me (only his own impatience) & wife starts haranging me! Now, I've got wife on the right & biker coming in on the left! Answer back the wife (mistake http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif ) & then I've got biker reving his engine on the right (me, 2/3rds across lane)! WTF http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

I can't take this $h1t anymore. Any time something happens around me & my wife has me at fault, even before/as it happens http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif I love her dearly (well, used to), but I cannot be unfairly blamed any time someone cuts me up! She's a solicitor & should take the balance of information available before making a decision - not when it comes to me tho' http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif As an example, 5 yrs ago, I was minding my own business, riding my bike within capabilities/speed limits/traffic conditions etc when some prat pulled a U-turn & knocked me off. I ring her from hospital & the first thing she asked (with THAT tone) was "What speed were you doing?" I've still got the physical scars/injury from that accident...

Time to go - time for a change (only chilled scooby/bike petrolheads need apply http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif )

Anyone want my soon to be x-wife???

s2 rs turbo 16 February 2001 11:48 PM

My brothers fiancee is the same. I can't go fast in my S2 and my brother can't drive properly according to her. Still she past her test recently so WE have learnt bad habits etc etc. Sorry to hear about your agro mate http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Commuting to London in a Vectra? - let her drive

Women eh ? Can't live with 'em, can't fit 'em in a blender..

Don't worry Puff, it's better to have loved and lost.. much better.

RonaldoH 17 February 2001 02:09 AM

You'd be mad to let it all go over the car causing you rows. Get some decent cds in the car that mean a lot to you in terms of your relationship and get a rearview mirror fitted for her so she can see your child (unless your kids up front in a chair) then she will realise that rowing is only gonna upset little one.

Not something you want to do Puff.....is it?

If she browses this BBS mind, you could be soon mixing the term guts with garters and adding for! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif

Best of luck mate, but sort it out. I would say maybe its worth it?....

Nosbig 17 February 2001 06:39 AM

A mate of mine recently got divorced and was bragging about the lack of stress he was getting while driving.

We made him a tape of continuous nagging, you know the form..."you're driving too fast", "why do you always have to show off" etc...etc...

On the B-side we just recorded silence punctuated by the odd tut or heavy sigh.

He reckons it helped him through the withdrawl a treat.

We even thought about commecialising it.

You've never had me as a passenger yet..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

It's the opposite way round with Sally and I. I'm the terrible passenger. When driving my car she keeps it off boost by changing gear too early, even when overtaking http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif and, to me does'nt appear to have great observation.

I know i'm the passenger from hell when it's my car and no matter what I try I can't help but think 'Don't change up yet!' or 'that idiots not indicating...'

My wife, however is quite content to let me drive without saying a word.

It's not worth risking the relationship over something like this. Let her drive on the potentially contenious journeys, use chloroform on her or practice for your IAM test(does'nt matter if you are going to do it or not) by doing a commentry as you drive. Not only will that show her you've seen the cars/bikes etc etc, but it will improve your observation skills too.

Just a few ideas, that may or may not do any good.

Patch it up, it'll be cheaper. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

What about driving in separately?

Tomorrow will be kisses and cuddles and you'll be deleting this thread. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Thanks for all your support guys 'n gals. Bad hair day yesterday http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

There is light at the end of the tunnel in that wife has got a job in Thetford, so WON'T be commuting with me http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

2 problems...

1) 2 months away

2) As commuting in different directions, she'll be driving PTMW! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Not economical for me to take PTMW! Dread to think what damage & mess wife'll make of PTMW! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif Considering flogging motorbike to buy small wife type car http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Wife's not all bad, she let me go to pub & have a few pints & chat up the busty (very) barmaid last night http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Once again thanks for your support - now got different dilema http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif Ain't life a bitch http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Hey James! Buy my Cyborg...screams like a bike but has aircon and folding mirrors (something you don't get on green UK cars!)

Tim

robski 18 February 2001 08:37 AM

James,

firstly get yourself along to the next suffolk/norfolk RS meet, only thing known to be guaranteed woman nag free!

Secondly cant you use the bike to commute, and allow http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif your wife to use the scoob?

Thirdly, dont be so quick to on pass this upgrade the Mrs offer. The building I work in has literally hundreds of 17-20 year olds, and Im sure there have been far more improvements made to the way women look over the last few years!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif (definatley not the same progress as seen in the scoob world)
1)they seem to be thinner
2)taller (longer legs apparently http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif )
3)more up for it (so Im told!) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif
4)wear less clothing in total, so the percentage covered is well down http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

are you sure you can pass this opportunity up!? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

DAZ 4 18 February 2001 11:54 AM

I can sympathise http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

I do the same route everyday and even at 6 o'clock in the morning I still have "problems" with drivers (usually bikers). I remember going in towards London (A12) on the flyover section (Hackney marshes) when a biker I had just overtaken came up the inside and banged on the window http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif Other 1/2 in the car screaming at me as if it was my fault http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

I came in to the city this morning (06:15) and couldn't believe the amount of traffic on the road compared to when I used to come in say 5 to 10 years ago.

We'll all need 2 wheels instead of 4 soon !!!

Hi mate. My words of the other day (in the "any Scoobs in the Bishops Stortford area" thread) - so prophetic eh???

OK - sorry - carried away

Mickey - welcome to Essex

LOL

Bet you were having one of THOSE conversations in the car again.....and I bet the Porsche is a Boxster - the car for the man that can't afford a real Porsche.....

PS - used the M11 south last Sat morning - the roadworks - what a fiasco! - then, glutton for punishmant, the A505 tween Royston and Baldock on Sat afternoon - two lanes down to one, 30mph limit, BIGGER fiasco!!

Dave T-S 18 February 2001 05:52 PM

PS - what pub is that the (very) busty barmaid is in.....?? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Dave T-S 20 February 2001 08:56 PM

So, James, you were allowed out to Donno, what's the latest???

Is it:

A) Divorce courts

or

B) Renewing your vows???

Puff The Magic Wagon! 20 February 2001 10:16 PM

Thank you everyone who came up @ Donno & offered support! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif I was really touched & embarrassed! Friday's post was a frustration shout - had to get it out the system as it were. Maybe I shouted a bit too loud http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif But thanks again for all the genuine concern http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Salsa-king spent quite a lot of his time on sunday trying to convince me that I should let him "dance her away" - I honestly think he was serious http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif However, hasn't met her yet http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif LOL

Dave

1) Pub - if I told you, I'd have to kill you as it's right next door & I'd be miffed if you came all that way to chat her up & not talk scoobs with me over (several) brandies. They also do take-outs http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif - well for me anyway http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

2) Divorce - not this week, not ever if I have anything to do with it. Many more important things in life - like my daughter http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

3) That Porsche - yes it was a boxster & I don't know how you knew that my ire at it was a result/to do with an argument we had in the car. Dave The Sage... (but porsche dweeny is a to$$er http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif )

Donno was never in doubt...

Dave T-S 21 February 2001 12:56 AM

1) The pub - you forget you told me where you live on the Fen Ditton meet - so now I know where the pub is!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif
PS - "Takeouts" - do you mean the barmaid?? LOL http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

2) Divorce off - glad to hear it!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

3) Knew it would be a Boxster - built by Porsche, driven by total nobheads..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

As to Dave the Sage, not really, you've posted several times about in-car road rage in the past - obviously you've forgotten!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Matt/James
Solved our personal (mild in comparison) in-car road rage problem - Carolyn moved jobs, bought her her own Scoob, and now we drive off in different directions in the morning........ http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Puff, I'm considering exactly the same thing. She's not bothered as long as it's a)new and b) reliable. I'm probably going to import a brand spanking Suzuki Alto 1.0 for her from Holland for the all in grand total of £4000!!!!!! You know it makes sense!! (Not selling the bike for anything though!!!!)

I'm afraid this doesn't seem to work. I have passed my IAM Bike test in '99 and am doing my IAM Car test next week. The more "Advanced" my driving gets, the less she likes it....comments like "you're driving on the wrong side of the road" and "people must think you're a real wa***r driving like that". You can't win, regardless of the fact that a Police Class 1 driver thinks your driving is good enough!!! She admits that it is true, we can never win due to her (felmale) (il)logic - she agrees that however many driving courses I do, she won't be happy with my driving.

Occasionally, to keep her quiet, I mention that she sould pass her IAM test to be in a position to critisize my driving - I never critisize hers... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

C'est la vie....

Cheers,

Matt. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Get her to drive for a week (I know it will be hell for you) but getting into work late each morning and she'll be stressed with it etc.. and then you can drive and she will be praising you for driving? just a thought..

You can sit there and say "What did you turn right without indicating for" etc... make sure it is in the Vectra though! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
