anyone know about SERVICING Ford Focus mkII
 

Wifes newer shape Focus Ghia 1.6 TDCi (2004-54 plate) car went in for a service a month ago.at main dealer in Nottm
Came back with oil drips, went in for MOT two three weeks after the service and she mentioned the oild leaks, they pt some UV stuff in the oil, and on Thursay last week she took it back (after doing 500miles) for them to check where the oil was coming from.

Report came back: oil leaks from...

Intercooler pipe
Ladder frame gasket
and Injector seals.


Now, this isn't covred on the extended warrenty (with Ford Protect) she took out when she bought the car, so looks like we've got to pay :(


Thing is the quote for the work is £1k.
does that sound about right??



I've rang Rapid Fit for a price and they said they can't do the ladder fame gasket or the injectors as it's a thing that needs to be done at the main dealer as they don't have the specialist tools to do the job properly!!! so they can't do the work.


Is this all correct??
So i take it we're over a barrel for having the work done at £1k :(

Can't really help Phil, but that's the problem with buying a Ford in Notts.
You've only really got one main dealer now as they've bought everyone out.

I'm assuming Sandicliffe?

If it was dripping oil after the service perhaps you should go back to them and explain, but then, after 3 weeks they tell you to FO.
When I had my Focus I found Sandicliffe at Loughborough to be the best.

Must be some independents around that could do it.

Edit - have you contacted Ford warranty directly?
I can't believe that the injectors and intercooler pipe aren't covered.

Yep, sandicliffe,

They said non of the parts taht are leaking oil are touhed when serviced and nothing is connected to each other.. Ie: a knock on effect from one part leaking.


I'm not holding much hope on anyone being able to do it if RapidFit (near Asda) can't sort it, them being backed by Ford, you'd think would have access to all the tools to do the job :(

Spoke with Ford Protect (warranty) non of the parts are covered as they aren't classed as electrical/machanical etc. Just ware and tear parts. She said of the injectors had gone, they be covered etc.

If the quote for the work is £1k from a dealer then you can almost knock 30-40% off that for a non Ford dealer to do it.

but non ford dealers, won't have the correct tools to do the Ladder Frame Gasket, or the Injector Seals. Thats why i rang Rapid Fit, but they don't have the tools to do the job.

just a thought, but isn't this the same engine in some Peugeots?
Try a Pug dealer.

Intercooler pipes are know for splitting on that engine (it's the big metal one). There is an updated part available so you might be able to argue that one. You do get a fair bit of oil in the intercooler as the crankcase gases are fed back in through it. Not something I like and I'm looking at fitting an oil mist catch tank.

Injector seals are easy to do but Ford say the injectors need to be coded to the engine. In reality, they don't have to be so long as you but each injector back where it came from.

No idea about the ladder gasket. Sorry.

My wife has the same car as you and it went to the Ford dealer in Nott'm for its first MOT and a service about 4 weeks ago.

We won't be taking it back there!!

They wanted to charge her £95 for a wheel alignment because they the front tyres had worn differently to the rears. So she told them that may be because the rears are brand new!!!


There was some other stupid stuff as well, all in all they wanted around £600.

So instead we took it to our local garage, which only cost us £100 for a mot and new brake pads.

was it sandicliffe too?


well the wife's cars going to be dropped off tomorrow evening, to get the oil leaks sorted, from the £1000 I got him down to £833.76 discounting the hourly rate and the parts..... so I said can you do it for £800 all in?..... yep :)

i spoze 800 is cheaper than swapping to a ST ;)
