Diesel cambelt change-what mileage-VW/Seat/Skoda etc ?
Could someone let me know at what mileage the major cambelt service is for the diesel engine in the Golf/Seat Leon/Octavia range (identical engine I believe ?) around the 2002 to 2005 mark ?
Many thanks JBL |
80k or 5 years for the 1.9d.

Thought they were the same as the petrols (4 Years / 60k)??

Check with your dealer as they are not all the same, some are 80K some are 60k

Don't own one but was looking to get one for my son. Was wondering when major services were due so as to either avoid cars near that mileage or use it as a bargaining tool.

VW / Skoda etc brought the interval's down from 5 years to 4 years a couple of years ago. |
At last a reason for owning a mondeo tdci  :smug:

After 2004, Diesels were 80k or 4years (in Germany 5 years don't ask me why), Pre 2004 60k or 4years. Major service after 2004 60k or 4years, But VAG group have just introduced replacement of fuel filter at 40k due to the increase of lower quality diesel in the UK.

Still not a reason for owning a FORD lol. ;-)

Depends on the engine. Whether it's a PD or previous generation TDi. Spookily I've been checking this today as I have a Passat, 2001, PD130 engine and the Haynes manual/service book aren't that clear. It seems that for mine, but I would call VW/Seat/Skoda/whoever to confirm (!!!) for your's, the interval is 60K miles or 4 years, whichever is the sooner. And I believe that the 4 year interval was specified at some stage later in the car's life, post 2003/2005 from what I've heard. For 2004 on it went to 80K miles.
Also, the earlier cars had tensioner and guide pulleys also to be replaced at each 60K but later, from 2004, it was 80K miles belt only with pulleys also at 160K miles. BUT I would call the dealer with your chassis number to make sure! Dave |
Thanks everyone, all the info helps. Clearly need to study the service record of the car I am interested in.
Cheers JBL |
As I was passing, and I wanted to park for free to go to the shops (!!), I popped into VW this morning. When I asked about cambelt changes he immediately said 60K or 4 years. Hadn't even mentioned whether it was petrol or diesel (though he may have remembered me from previous visits). Though I believe some now go longer.
