Cherished plates

Does anyone know if it is possible to resurrect a no. plate that might have been on an old car which would long ago have been scrapped, assuming it was ever issued.

An old 1970 ish H plate.

Should I just contact DVLA, rather than pay one of the cherished plate companies to do it?

Any idea of the cost?

Thanks

Adam

not sure about resurrecting one off a scrapped car - i have a private plate on mine and been looking at selling it. I've been told that the plates off of cars that are write offs generally get put on imports and other such vehicles that aren't registered, that is why sometimes when you put your number plate into a insurance search engine it tells you it was a porsche or a peugeot, least thats one the DVLA website info told me.

Anyhow, i did have a friend that bought a plate from an old 1930's motorcycle - it was pug 106 - cost him a fortune but he got it for his yellow 106 gti. cost him a fortune. Can't imagine the bike was still up and running though.

Give the DvLA a ring and ask them.

DVLA does seem a sensible place to start.
