Which ECU is a Y7
 

Hey guys,

I just noticed the ecu in my car.... its a "Y7"... (green and silver logo)

Anyone know if this is aftermarket or standard on a 2000 classic rex?

yea mate. googled it.. came up mostly about ppl wanting to put a Y7 AE802 into their car, or replacing it with the ecu from a my99.

The car has an exhaust, frontmount and VF34 turbo running 10-12 psi boost. Not sure if its been remapped to suit the mods though. But it doesnt run as quick as it should. Its had a few hesitation issues when reved high, but mechs told me its normal for this car. Not sure wat to think abt that :Suspiciou
Do you guys think it would be worth the remap?
Do you think it would fix the hesitation at higher rpm?

a mechanic told you that hesistation is normal for your car WTF.

Turbo isn't standard for your car ,the boost is lower than standard and if it hasn't been remapped for the mods that's your problem imo.
Get the car remapped,unfortunately only with an aftermarket ecu,as far as i know, (i'm guessing by your user name you have a 98 wrx :) )

Well the car is actually a 2000 model. The 98 rex was a while ago :)

Hmm... so remapping cant be done to standard ecus? Without stepping up to an aftermarket ecu, what other options would there be?

i havent been remapped and im running 15-17psi on a vf43 in a 97 classic sti.

it may have been chipped though before it come over here as this is not normal.

sounds like it is possibly running the td04 map hence the 10~12psi (if it were mapped it would most likely be running nearer 16~18psi etc) and the hessitation is hopefully because it is mega rich.

Any ecutek dealer can plug in and tell you if it has been mapped but then you are left wondering if it was mapped to the current mods.. and that you have the hessitation and are missing out on power running that little boost..

best option is probably to just get it mapped.

thing is the 99~00 uk car has a td04 and the vf23 is a fair bit larger.. your car should have a vf23 and the vf43 is larger but not the same jump as from the td04 to the vf23 and just because you haven't broken it yet doesn't mean the OP won't :) ;)

Hope it hasn't been chipped as it is unlikely to be for the new turbo and therefore make the safety margin thinner.

Speak to Jolly Green Monster (Simon) as if it's a year 2000 car the standard ecu can be remapped and if you do a search you can see how many people are happy with his work

i changed my vf23 for a vf35 then i swapped to a vf43. purely because i had them for nothing. lol.

in regards to getting it remapped- i was quoted something absurd from an ecutek dealer today- what would be a reasonable cost to get it remapped?


Also you mention it running rich...do u mean that in terms of oil or fuel? though its chewing fuel under normal driving conditions... oil seems ok at this stage.
