Bump steer

Ok this has been done time and time again, yet I will still review the mod , simpy as a thank you.

Problem. UY99 scooby, handing like a buss.

I had the prodrive geom..

Result, seemed to help a little, removed some of the under steer, yet still did not inspire confidence.

Tyres (so2`s) were getting a little thin, and thought this may be a factor in the poor grip, and massive under steer.

So changed to toyo`s T1`s, scrubbed them in a few hundred miles, very pleased. There is more grip (than my worn out So2`s) but still all that under steer, and lots of it.

Took a drive down south today to pay PowerStation a visit to have the recommended bump steer mod.

Ok so here goes.

Took around 2 hrs to do, I sat with kev while he did it, chatting away, my first impressions were good. I was pleased with the amount of time kev took, showing me what he was doing (and as I was not paying him by the hour, I was happy)

Things were tightened, loosened , re tightened, fiddled tweaked, and fitted. Simply above my head. Now for all I know he could have just stuck chewing gum under there and charged me 140 notes.

But when finished received a printout showing me the before and after settings, Nice I thought kinda like head and shoulders, but what I wana know is s my money well spent.

Drove the car home aprox 2 hrs on the motorway, I did notice the steering felt sharper, less side to side play, this I liked a lot. Made the car feel more like the precision tool I expected it to be like.

Finally got home and blasted some of my fav roads, this mod is truly FanBloodyTastic.

I am easily disappointed by half arsed people doing half arsed jobs, its starting to be a pet hate of mine, I become enraged by all of the Jobsworths I meet on a day to day basis, in every sort of industry.

The quality of service I received by kev and the boys was simply second to none, he didn’t try to sell me anything, no pushy this needs doing mate, or you doowhcky is shot, youll need another. He simply pointed things out, explain the benefit I would gain from them, and let me make up my own mind.

I can Hartley recommend this mod, I paid £140, plus 20 quid for petrol, I only wish I had done this sooner, it makes the car drive like I always thought it should.



Kev (powerstation) if you read this, thankyou very much DO NOT CHANGE, a rare quality.

And I will see you soon for anything that needs doing to my car , as I know its in good hands.

I've been there a couple of times, first for the bumpsteer and second for the ALK, links etc etc.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. It's so good to go to a workshop that is so free of bulls**t and where they always do a good job. Highly recommended.

Have the Prodrive mod (part of DEP), but also got a mate who swears by Powerstation (you out there Rob?), he'll be glad to see this. He has said though that he thinks the mod can be knocked out of whack by lazy road workmen who give no warning about tarmac ramps after road resurfacing works.

Perhaps I should apy them a visit?

Had my new wheels on and thought it was about time to get the tracking done, and thought I'd do bumpsteer at same time. So popped up to PS to get it done. Persuaded myself to also get anti-lift kit fitted. Spent a few hours with Nick as he set it all up. laughed as we found the existing measurements were totally messed up. Nick set it all up and on the drive back home I was totally and utterley amazed at the change. The car handles like a dream, hardly any understeer, no bumpsteer, and it corners! amazing, it's like having a new car.

best money I've spent.

If you have not had it done the go and do it. It is a simple as that.

can someone tell me where this place powerstation is, i am in sussex, my car seems to be very bad handling when the wind blows it seems to make the car drift sideways.is this likely to help that situation makes me uneasy about taking high speeds on the motorway, would appreciate some feedback as to what the problem might be??

I had the bump steer mod and 4 wheel check done at PowerStation on Tuesday.
I agree with all the above comments, a superb mod and nice people to deal with. Nick took time to tell me what he was doing and why he was doing it.

I would recomend PowerStation to anyone.

Powerstation is in Cheltenham, so a bit of a drive, but I'm from kent and went up there, about 1hr 45min drive. Well worth it though.

mobile chicane- i might give them a call see if they can give me some advice on what could cause my car to be really light when the wind blows on the back end, is it a common thing with subarus or just mine, may need to get it lowered or uprated shocks or something? thanks for your help

Mine does this too.

My geometry may be off and (as mentioned above) I haven't done the bump steer mod yet.

However, in strong side winds, particularly at motorway speeds, I suppose a lightly built saloon car like the Impreza will be unsettled a bit...

If you get anything done that improves it, please let me know.

Yes I will add my vote too. The bumpsteer removal and Anti Lift Kit combined make wet roundabouts (with SO2s) an absolute dream. Blows everything out of sight. It is an unquestionable necessity as otherwise the understeer kills the enjoyment and true capabilities of the car. Beware though, if she goes she'll go big time or so I'm told but mine is very neutral. It feels as if on rails but your throttle action sets the stance of the car in the corner where at worst I've had four wheel drift and very predictable too.

Bumpsteer, Eibachs, Geometry, Anti Lift & stiffer anti-roll bars...a Scooby that handles well. PowerStation are Top Boys.

Sorry to be ignorant, but what do they do for this bump steer mod? Is it just re-set the suspension geometry or something more?

they remove the pre set bump steer, i may be wrong, but as i understand ther is a factory set amount of bump steer, so when yo ubreak or turn around a corner, the wheelk point outwards, they shim up this, so when turning the wheels point streight.

Thats all i understand of it, but its very good.

Just had another blast, ther managed to get some understeer in, but hell i was pushing it, and i think if io adjust my driving style to the new set up ittle be less and less. THIS IS WHAT A UK SCOOBY IS SUPOSED TO HANDLE LIKE.

i will certainly let u know if i can find a solution, money is a bit tight at the moment but i am considering either lowering it or getting a big spoiler for downforce, dont know if it will work though!

bumpsteer and four wheel alignment is I thinkg about 120 quid plus vat, so not a massive bank breaker. I think that for that including the antilift kit inc VAT and labour I paid about 364 quid, not bad to totally transform the handling of the car.

A note to the wise though. If you don't do the anti-lift kit at the same time then you WILL need to get the four wheel alginment done again, so if you're tempted, get it all done at the same time.

The bumpsteer mod made a massive difference to the 22B we had.

Excuse my ignorance, I'm new to modding. The antilift kit I assume helps acceleration, as it stops the body from lifting? Is it a worthy mod to?

It's a tempting idea but I'm worried about 'on the limit' handling.

I can set the car up and control most situations but will this mod make the car more 'snappy' or unpredictable? Has anyone stuffed their car on a track day after this mod (possibly feeling that the mod gave super-human turn in/false sense of security)?

in that case i think i will wait for the bank balance to get a bit healthier then i will go for the £364 package and get it all down at the same time, probably easier that way
