check this out i dont think this is an RA do you?
|
Looks ok to me, what makes you think its not?
|
Looks like a RA to me, no rear wiper, no side skirts or rear spats, Aerial on front pillar. i think it was just early ones like mine that had black mirrors and handles.
The ad says its got ABS which it shouldnt have, it should have i/c spray instead. |
That is a '98 WRX Type RA Ltd. Seems spot on to me.
That car came with ABS as they don't have the DCCD, but they don't have the I/C spray. Looks like a good 'un to me and seems standard inside and out which is another plus imo. Also has reasonable milage for a car that age. |
looks like one to me. minter to boot.
|
Version 5 wrx type ra limited.........Looks a goodun...
|
Very nice. Fail OP
|
Why does the buyer have to register it ?
Is that a bit odd ? 'Cos I wouldn't expect to have to do that, unless it's going to attact a £400 a year VEL bill.... ( ? ) dunx |
I didn't think the RA's had as much gadgetery fitted i.e. the electric windows, mirrors etc. Or was the just the earlier RA's?
|
they were options, registering it in the sense of SVA etc is done as it has MOT so can only assume he means for plates or is confused.
All in all a very nice example if not over priced. epic fail by OP :lol1: |
So for fear off sounding thick....
What was point in buying an RA then filling it with all the stuff that there not meant to come with for wieght reasons? why not just buy a STI |
This particular model came with electric windows/mirrors and air con as standard....as did the v4/5/6 cars in both sti limited and non sti limited form.
Its a limited edition so i assume subaru wanted to make it comfortable and for use as a road car.........They also produced non limited wrx type ra models without the creature comforts...although these are rare. |
ra
Hi if you want a proper ra sti dccd etc go for the version 2 no aircon no power windows no soundproof no side skirts or front splitter.the one you see is limited like you say u might as well buy sti version 4 or maybe type r.
|
|
If you lift the carpet you will find the Ra still have sound proofing/deadening....;).....
|

if it doesnt have dccd and ic spray does that means its not that good and your just buying the ra name?and better off with a type R.
|
Youre confusing a WRX Type-RA with a WRX STI Type-RA. Shame on you after being a mamber here for five years!
The Type-RA came first and Subaru used it to homologate features for GroupN: since then the models have developed..... |
As Rooferman says, looks like a 1998 WRX RA Limited ........... Sonic blue, gold wheels, colour coded electric mirrors, STi IV spoiler, all blue seats like the STi stablemate, fogs, ABS and air-con. 1000 made :D

scroll over thumbnails underneath to see said photos of seats. Stop fretting. As said above there is no doubt this car is what it says it is. Interior and exterior are all bang on, and it looks a good 'un to boot. wot you doing here wayne |
sorry never owned an imprezza which you prob can tell lol but does this mean its not as good as an sti ra as this is a wrx ra?
|
I own '99 STi Type RA Ltd and I would naturally say Yes, the STi is better. But tbh, never driven a WRX TYpe RA, but used to own a WRX and the difference is very noticeable. STi has better brakes, better suspension, more torque, DCCD, A/C water spray (which I must confess I never use), roof vent and has some forged engine parts so the engine is a little stronger. Also prefer the high level wing myself. However, in Ltd form the WRX is 20 Kg lighter (at 1240 kg) than the STi (1260 Kg) and has the same Bhp. The WRX RA is still a very capable car but out of the box the STi is a better car, and when I was buying an RA I didn't look at even one WRX RA as I was not gong to consider anything less than the STi version.
For a balanced view though you need someone who owns a WRX RA to pipe up. |
I had a Type RA WRC edition which is what the car in the link is.
Apart from the roof vent, DCCD (maybe 4 pots as JDM WRX never got 4 pots but mine had 4 pots) I don't think theres any other differences between the WRX and STI. Insurance though a WRX RA is insured as an WRX so much cheaper. |
