dont see the point in weight saving on a road car,a full tank and 3 up will soon put you back to heavy car,but each to their own

type-ellis 09 October 2009 08:22 PM

A full tank and 3 up ontop of the weight thats already in it and u got even more weight. My cars basically just a toy, have never got more than 2 in it, if we have to go far then i take the other car. Every little bit helps, just as important the weight as it is the power.

HT04 09 October 2009 08:44 PM

have to say, i dont really see the point. especially if you are still using original seats etc...if you were going full on, buckets, harnesses, cage, no dashboard, carbon door cards, etc etc etc, then i see the point.

sorry but thats my two pence worth

Yep each to their own, am happy to plod along with it and at the end of the day even if i dont go the whole hog, Dash out, bucket seats etc, its still a little bit less weight which in my eyes is better, it keeps me buisy :)

mickywrx 09 October 2009 09:03 PM

All that for a 12s 1/4 mile? :wonder:

If you're looking to save weight, bin all the rear seat belt gubbins. Air-Con, throught that in the bin, and take your rear seats out for drag racing.

Not that the rear seats weigh much, but, that is all I've done.

Meh, it's up to you at the end of the day. :) At least it's keeping you busy << ;)

I took the air con out the other week, thats gone already. Thats what i plan to do, just take the rears back out for track days and so on. The matting under the carpet id say weighs more than the back seats by the time its all out, realy is quite thick in places. will all help.

rip it out leave it out mate
cant see the point of taking out sound deadening etc to put the seats back in
its all or nothing once statring down that route imho

cheers matt

Good effort matey, I totally understand the point of this, You are on a slippy slope now and with weight loss comes the obsession Kinda like anorexia but for the car pmsl.

I bet there is at least 20 - 30kg weight loss from all the sound deadening once removed so that is a bloody good start.

Power:weight FTW :D

DamEscort 10 October 2009 12:10 PM

Good luck with it mate. Just a thought, has anyone actually measured the weight of all the sound deadening once it's been removed to see what their removing?

kermit sti 10 October 2009 02:59 PM

good on you mate im doing the same to mine atm how have you tackled getting you sound deadening off as im about to do mine and looks like you have done a good job.

type-ellis 10 October 2009 07:40 PM

cheers guys, ive just been useing a rubber mallet and a large flat head screwdriver. Ive done some more today and then cleaned it all up with thinners so looks much better now, will post some pics up tommrow when ive done some more. Im collecting all mine in a strong bag so i can weigh it once its all out, so far id say the bag weighs around 15kg and still got a bit too do.
GTW, I know what you mean mate, im already looking for other bits i can remove that i dont need to free up some extra. I may just wrapp my seats up and leave them in the shed and just pop them back in if i ever need more than just 2 people in it. Real enjoying doing it aswell so all is good. And for all you people who are about to do it, get stuck in, get ya music on in the car and keep with it, worth it in the end :thumb:
