Who's got a degree ?

I never went to uni, too busy at really crap clubs with j4ckos mate, earnign a few quid and running Capri's :D won a car and sold it to my dad and went to college, did an OND and that did me for the further/higher education thing, have got to thinking I wouldnt mind doing an OU degree, anyone done one ?

And for fun, suggest degrees that you think other members may have ?

I started my degree at University of Ulster. At the time (just before i married) i was working 7 days a week in two jobs. i then started part time 2 nights a week (5pm-9pm). My degree was in computer science and software engineering. i stuck the pace for 3 years passed all my modules some of which were fookin hard. I then took a year out and decided to finish off my degree at OU. i was pissed off with computer science as i cant programme worth a crap, so i decided to do something i was interested in. i did 3 maths modules along with cosmology, astronomy and planetary science, physics and a few other to build up my CATS points to 360 required for and "hons" degree. unfortunately the transferred CATS points from my first three years all classed the same even though some of the modules i passed were at level 3. the OU degree requires a modicum of discipline to do the coursework, the tutor marked assignments and the exams. OU also allows for some marks to added to your exam from your coursework if you balls up in the exam. I enjoyed my OU experience though some of the 60 point modules were a hard slog.

you see!!! even a pass degree can get on in life. i suppose being a banker, you are pretty "economical" with the truth ;)

TelBoy 08 October 2009 01:29 PM

"Creative", not economical ;)

EddScott 08 October 2009 01:34 PM

I haven't but its something I would like. A work colleague adds BA (Hons) to all his letters like its a Medel of Honour.

They run exams twice a year in the IFA industry and you get awarded points when you pass that culminate currently into being a Chartered Adviser. I'm working towards Diploma level and need 4. Minimum requirement by Jan 2012 is Diploma so I've got 6 chances to pass 4.

Then theres advanced diploma which I believe is equivilent to degree standard.

ahhhh..........spoken like a true banker. I had an accountant who liked the "creative" approach to working with numbers. I didnt pay much tax for a number of years. (all legal and above board BTW). the amount of stuff he could get away with was outrageous.

I left school with GCSE's just as i really wanted to earn money fast and it worked for a good few years. Girlfriends wanting to go to Uni next year so i'm gonna slug it out for another few years as she wants to become a teacher and if all works out then I may try the educational path again. By this time i will probably be 30 though!

Good stuff :thumb: What was the subject of your doctorate thesis? My cousin did the same subject and produced the most (seemingly) pointless/obscure final paper imaginable!
