front fog lamps
Hi Guys,
I'm a noob owner of a 98 impreza wagon. Don't know much about the spec but it has two small (50mm) fog lights at the bottom of the front bumper, only one of which works. In an attempt to get at the bulbs tonight I took off the bumper grille and was able to shimmy my hand down to the terminals where I believe I snapped a small spade connector and a white wire came loose. Perhaps it was always like that! Question is, how do I get easy access to them to tidy up and rework the cabling and how do I go about changing the bulbs if necessary? Trying to avoid removing the front bumper altogether if possible cos I'm scared with all the rot it won't go back on! Thanks! |
Where are they fitted? Can you post a pic? (You may have to get it hosted in Photobucket, or similar first).

Hi, The lamps are as per ebay item 150377858789 (2000 SUBARU IMPREZA SPORT AWD SILVER on eBay (end time 09-Oct-09 20:20:39 BST)).
By the way, the description says the guy replaced his existing fog lamps with a GL bumper with small lamps - do you think this is what happened to mine? The small lamps are really rare. I had no history with the car when I bought it! |
You sure they are only 50mm diameter? The usual small ones for a Scoob are Hella 90mm units.............:wonder:
Anyway, you need to remove the covers around them, which may be bolted, push fit, or glued:( Depending on who fit them and where they were sourced. Under those the lights will be held on three bolts, and releasing those will give access to the wiring. |
Yeah, they are not far off 50. I think they're colour matched to the body so I'd guess they're not aftermarket. The recessed hole in the bumper isn't big enough to accommodate larger lamps and I'd need to replace the whole bumper if I was to fit larger diameter ones. The horizontal openings are approx 80mm high. The lamps look like a convex glass dome and have the appearance of a household halogen lamp in a cylindrical housing approx 60mm dia by 80mm long. They have rubber boots at the rear and a cable runs behind the bumper connecting the two together.
As I said, I think they are the same as the ebay car - perhaps a previous owner changed the bumper assembly. |
