Lowering Options
Hi guys i am looking to lower my 03 impreza sti with prodrive pack
i want to lower the car as much as possible on springs (will save for some coiles) but just wanted to get some advice on what springs to go for and what other options i need to add when lowering geometry ect. so what springs? price? other requirments? and anyone in oxfordshire/gloustershire area who can fit them cheap? :D Cheers chaps |
Eibach springs, drop it 25mm at the rear 30mm at the front.
Budget on around £500 including fitting and decent geometry setting |
I am looking to go the same route, but opting for the Prodrive springs. Quotes for supply & fit so far about the £420+ mark plus £100 for the geo set up.
|
well if i buy some lowering springs and get them fitted i could sell you my pro drives
anyone know any springs that lower more than the above i was hoping for a 40mm drop or there abouts cheers |

Why not just go for some BC coil overs?
|
how much is the set up of the colies, and how hard are they my last car as on coiles lowerd 60mm and was hard as and unbearable lol
|
You may want to look into other things that might need doing once you have lowered your car. For example, if you are hoping for 40mm reduction, you will almost certainly need bump steer correction and possibly roll centre correction, with possibly anti-roll bar upgrades.
Only sayin' as you could find yourself with handling you're not happy with and needing stuff you hadn't budgeted for. If done right you'll then all the benefits of lower COG |

have a look at 'my garage' my bugeye is sat on KYB Ultra SR shocks and Tein S Tech springs. as your car is the STi you already have the equiverlent shocks so fitting the Tein S Techs should make yours sit like mine. imo it look just right, the ride is harder than standard with less roll when cornering..set it up with a fast road Geo set up and youll be laughing
|
if you want coilovers but ones that arent harsh then go for the tein superstreets with top mounts, i live on isle of wight and the roads are ****e but the ride is firm but not ott.
|
Cheers for that guys, rsjohn on the tein streets are you running any other chasis mods, and how much did you pay to get them set up
powerwrx, i like the stance on your car looks just like what im looking for currently a decent drop and stiffen up a bit but with no to much loss in comfort, are you running any other chasis mods and how much was set up? Cheers |

Cheers the shocks and springs set me back £520 but like i said you wont need the shocks. i think i paid around £145 for the springs..but if you shop around you may get them cheaper..maybe ebay or someone on here may have some forsale. |
sweet, well i already have the strut brace, i have found the lowering soprings for different prices all over lol, what did you think of the ride after springs were fitted bud , and how much did it improve handling?
just waiting on a quote for fitting now from a company local to me and did you have your geo done after? cheers |
not had the geo done yet mate, out of work so cant afford to at the min.. fast road set up was reccomended to me though.
i wont lie..the ride is harder..(on mine) but that may be because i had new shocks fitted too..so i cant really comment on just the springs for ride comfort..but the ride doesnt bother me at all..its firm but nothing that you cant live with. much stiffer when cornering..less roll than standard |
so long as its not like driving on bricks lol....ill probs get the geo set up the following month or something :D

Cheers I should warn you though, suspension is a very subjective thing. Coilovers are ALWAYS going to be firmer than the standard shocks and springs and though the Teins are on the softer end of the coilover spectrum, some people would get a bit of a shock I suspect! ;) Coilovers are generally height adjustable, but you shouldn't "slam" the car, much more than 25mm and ride/handling starts to suffer IMHO. |
The std sti is only just 5-10mm above the front bump stops at std height, lowering by just using springs will mean you are sitting into the front bumps stops and ride/handling will suffer.
The prodrive spring upgrade lowers by 25mm at the front but they have the right idea by supplying shorter front bump stops cos they know about the above issues. If you leave the shorter prodrive bumpstops in place and lower it more using different springs you WILL be running onto the front bumps and the handling will be worse. dipster |
I experienced bump steer caused by lowering ~40mm.
On an undulating road it was horrible. Had to take it quite slowly otherwise the car would be thrown all over the place :( Car just didn't have enough bump travel before it hit the bump stops Fixed by fitting a Roll Centre Correction Kit :) |
set of brand new lowering springs off ebay for £120
|
where can i get uprate bump stops guys?
cheers |
ok guys found a scoobie specialist that will lower the car on the s tech springs for me then check tracking and camber ect, for £230
So if i go for the tein s stech springs how much will it lower by (i know there 35-25 but i already have prodrives currenlty) Will i need shorter bump stops? Cheers |

and where can one get one of those :D
and excuse my ignorance but what does roll centre correction do? |
ive got the Teins as you know... they lower the car 25mm back and 35mm front as my car in the pics..
ive had no issues regaurding bump stops at all...mine were fitted by one of the TOTB and Scooby shootout 'Team Subaru' drivers at his own garage and he never said anything was an issue.. he is a personal friend of mine too so he would have told me straight away |
i know thats what i was thinking mate the garage that are fitting mine rally scoobies and set up loads of track and fast road cars and they said it would be fine
i have the prodrives at the mo and they apperntly lower 25mm anyway will i get much more out of the teins eg will it be sat like yours even though im already lower/ cheers |
same springs as mine so i cant see why it wouldnt look the same mate..i had the equiverlent shocks as the sti fitted at the same time but yours already has them anyway so i dont see why it would look different tbh
|
yer thats what i thought matey dont you have the lowering mesauerments round the wrong way does it now lower front 35mm and baxk 25mm? as the back sits lower as standard?
where abouts you from chap? |
no the mesurements are the right way round..
