Tapping/rattling after injectors being fitted

Hi just fitted pink injectors and there is now a rattling sound from the engine. Tapping sort of noise.

Has my bottom end gone?

It's a 2004 wrx that's done 39000 miles

Biggs 02 October 2009 09:43 AM

It will be the injectors that are noisey. To put your mind at rest, touch each injector cap with a screwdriver then put your ear to the end of the screwdriver. You will be able to hear which one/s are making noise. But its nothing to worry about

jamiedream 02 October 2009 12:08 PM

It's quite a loud tapping sound tho and rattles when revs are going down so not one constant sound.

Have you had it mapped or are you just massively overfuelling?

Simon

jamiedream 02 October 2009 01:28 PM

Was due to get it mapped by JGM, was gettin injectors done while he wAs on his way and then we didn't want to do it cos of the rattling. JDP motors garage is certain it's because of injectors cos of over fuelin but JGM is certain it's not injectors and it's bottom end.

So not remaped yet. But has got walbro 255 and pink injectors fitted.

dazdavies 02 October 2009 01:58 PM

Take your new injectors out put old ones in. If it still rattles it's not the injectors.

jamiedream 02 October 2009 02:38 PM

Taking it to garage in morning cos they still have my old injectors hopefully. I just dong understand how can go into garage get injectors done and then come out with bottom end gon.

urban 02 October 2009 02:43 PM

Maybe they took it out for a wee drive?

Is it a UK car or a jap import

jamiedream 02 October 2009 02:55 PM

It's a Uk car and was withthem while doing it as I know them there, carwasdrove in and then out. Then waited for JGM to show up and started it, then heard tapping.

dj219957 02 October 2009 05:23 PM

cant see how that would cause the bottom end to go. if its that. could only be pure coincidence if it is.

Davros 1979 02 October 2009 06:07 PM

Not having much luck are you Jamie.

How did you manage to get the FMIC on in the end?

jamiedream 02 October 2009 06:14 PM

Just drove car back from mates house and car hasn't been tapping at idle... It's only when the revs are going down you here the knockin/rattling. Also wen started car was under idlein until I gave it a rev.

jamiedream 02 October 2009 06:15 PM

Just whacked a sti tmic on. I know mate it's a complete joke but can't understand why it would be bottom end just like that.

Another thing wouldn't the knocking/tapping sound be constant at idle etc.

Jolly Green Monster 02 October 2009 09:11 PM

Jamie,
My concern when you started it for first time that it was on the down rev like big ends.
When I followed you there was no smoke or smell of fuel.
Imho the ecu has compensated for the extra 170cc injectors on cruise and idle as normal.
I would expect it to get worse but the fact it isnt may suggest it is some thing else.
Tmic touching something. Downpipe touching etc and vibrates when engine moves on down rev?
Hope it is something like that, but fear its not.
Simon

I know what your saying Simon, just couldn't believe it just happened, I'm sure I would of noticed it when driving down there to get injectors done.

Hoping it's not major, I'm sorry people but iv even lowered my standards by starting to look at evo's just incase this is the problem.

Jolly Green Monster 04 October 2009 09:03 AM

Does seem weird, all okay, injectors fitted and drive out.. I turn up and you started it and there was a definite knock.

Is it still consistently doing it?

jamiedream 04 October 2009 11:38 AM

Iv taken it to JDP again with different people and customers in there and then Subaru in olney and they all saying that it is most certain it's the overfuelling and it's just going to make it worst and will make the bottom end go if driven so iv dumped it at my mums Near olney (and looked at evo's lol) the car keeps under idlein and over idlein and also keeps back firing sort of... Banging from exhaust. Which they also say is fuel.

Still little tapping, but there's a black blobeye wrx in jdp with bottom end gon and you can tell that's bottom end.

And to top it off my alarm now keeps going off so either can't lock the car or gotta wait for alarm to go off to press button so car stays locked.... Times like this I wish I kept my bike

Jolly Green Monster 04 October 2009 12:07 PM

yes idle issues, yes the odd cough but knock from the bottom end due to larger injectors is not normal.. lost count of the number of cars with larger injectors fitted I have mapped and never heard it make noise from the bottom end.

If the other car has been driven with noise ignored it would be a lot louder and more obvious..

you said the engine also made the same noise last month and then stopped?

Simon

RS_Matt 16 October 2009 01:30 PM

My injectors have become noisey/ticky and the car started juddering straight after on idle. Looks like overfuelling has really hit my engine hard, compression down badly on 2 cylinders. Subaru tuners have a lot to learn.

jamiedream 25 October 2009 03:51 PM

I have just looked at car for first time since as just got fed up an dumped on mums drive. The knocking happens at around 2500rpm only when revs are coming down.

I have brought a crank, bearings pistons rods and oil pump.
