DVD player in a 2003 sti

Just bought a 2003 uk sti, It has a DVD player fitted into the roof where the interior lights are. It looks professionally installed and as if it has been there since the car was manufactured. The textures on the plastic are the same as the rest of the car etc. Was just wondering if this was an option on the cars originally or if it is just a very good aftermarket instalation? And does anyone know how I would go about using it? It has a remote control but won't seem to turn on. Maybe the remote needs new batteries, or I am being stupid?

not a factory option from what i recall, must be a professional install in that case. try some new batteries and check theres power going to it

I love to do this really geeky thing to check remote batteries.

Fire up your mobile phone camera, or regular digital camera, aim the remote at the lens whilst pressing a button, and you should see something from the infrared bulb when you do that. That light is invisible to the human eye.
