Energy bills 'unlikely to fall'
WTF is wrong with Ofgem  The Utility companies are taking the p*ss ...
TX. |
Crazy isn't it? What is the point of Ofgem?
Ofgem: Whoelsale prices have dropped so any chance you guys can cut energy prices to the consumer? Energy companies: No, we don't want to because we're raking it in and we are a cartel Ofgem: OK then, no worries.:cuckoo: |
The whole sorry problem is that we don't own any of our own Energy companies. All Foreign owned. French owned companies charge their home countries a lot less than they charge us.

Its criminal. At work we didn't pay too much attention to our bill until EDF wanted £300 per month - they had already been sneaky b*stards by giving us a 3 day window to cancel the contract.
The estimates were miles out and we are owed a big refund. The figure I came up with was more than EDF so I called them to ask for the bill to be check. No, its right. I don't believe it is, I want it checked. No. Well in that case I want to make a compliant You'll have to go to the ombudsman Don't EDF have a complaints department? No. Shocking attitude! I completed the online form with the ombudsman but as yet have not received a reply. On a plus side, having had my gas effectively off since May, I'm £34 in credit at home with EOn with close to bang on readings. |
Being of a more 'right wing' persuasion I'm not in favour of state enterprises. But in the case of our utilities (energy and water) I believe that it's not in our national interests to have them in the hands of private companies, whether foreign or British.
If everyone ended up lowering their energy usage (for Climate Change or some other reason) then the energy companies would just put the price per unit up. They're responsible to their share holders at the end of the day - not to the bill payers. Dave |

Dave Energy prices are ONE THIRD what they were when bills went up. They have not fallen to take that into account. And what do GOVERNMENT do? Rake in the extra VAT. Petrol prices: just the same, oil is HALF what it was when prices went daft, but have prices come down? Nope:mad: And again, government rake in the VAT and say nowt:mad: The whole thing STINKS! |

Interesting that dear old Maggie is mainly responsible for the private ownership of our utlility companies and then of course Blair allowed them to be sold further into foreign hands. Makes you realise that neither party are worth voting for. |

In terms of "energy" prices (And the UK has alwasys had high prices) you haven't seen anything yet!
Once Al Gore starts chomping on your emissions, you'll hard hit. |
Going down now, BBC.
|
Still with british gas here :thumb:
|
Aye, going down 7% when world price has dropped 60%
Why? "Well it's because we buy gas in the forward market and we are still burning the expensive stuff." OK...........so when it rises again, will WE be getting 60% lower bills while we burn the cheap stuff? Doubt it VERY much. |
We should be thankful for any loose change they toss our way I guess ... have you looked at that graph though

Interesting post over at ... EU Referendum: Gone native
"... To put it in context, Ofgem - the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets - tells us that "protecting consumers is our first priority," then listing "other priorities and influences", which include "contributing to the drive to curb climate change and other work aimed at sustainable development." What this press release actually tells us though is that Ofgem has gone native, ditching it first priority – the very reason for which it was set up - replacing it with climate change. The effect of that will not only ensure that we do run out of electricity but we will also have to pay through the nose for the limited supply that remains available ..." Read the rest. But you won't hear Flash or CMD spelling this out! Dave |
