Bad Judder on acceleration - any ideas?
 

Had something new happen this evening and a bit worried about it.
Was coming out of Sandhurst and up the dual carriageway towards Brackers - gave it some up the hill playing with a Galant, and put my foot down, but the car seemed to bog down after just about 3-4,000 rpm, and then started juddering badly in second gear, changed up and it wasn't quite so noticeable but the juddering was pretty violent.

I've had a misfire due to spark plugs before and that was more subtle like lag - this was actually almost like a set of jolts that continued at high revs until I backed off, and was accompanied by a bit of a nasty smell (which I think was my car although can't be sure as a lot of people boot it up that hill and it tends to smell of cat emissions - i.e rotten eggs!).

Got home, checked the boost hoses and intercooler hoses to see if anything had popped off (recently installed a boost gauge about a month ago) but nothing obvious.
On the drive to work this morning it was faultless. Can't understand it!

That was my initial "hope" but just went out for a quick drive to the garage to get a few bits and engine warning light came on.
Came home very slow - car sounded ropey as hell, not the normal burble, really chugging, and when I opened the bonnet, seemed to be a sound almost like metal bits floating around the area where the turbo sits - I'm very worried now..heard the horror stories about the cat breaking up and going through the turbo... :(

See my other thread mate - code 304 - Cylinder 4.
Steve reckoned it could be a screwed plug or a faulty coil pack. I'm hoping that's all it is tbh - could do without any other issues. Just hope it's nothing compression wise - sounded terrible.

He cleared the code for me, blipped the accelerator bit, came straight back again...

Been under the bonnet this morning, checked the coil pack plug hadn't come loose or anything daft but looked fine.
No obvious air leaks, but it's definitely running rich - must be dumping the unburnt fuel for cylinder 4 :(
Had a quick search online, and it says the usual - plugs, coil packs, but also clips on injectors (no idea where these are??), and also dirty MAF - will try the latter now...
Got the car booked in for Kelv to have a look at it in Twyford at 10:30...

Haha yeah mate I was.
I took the plug out of the coil pack for cylinder 4, cleaned it, put it back in again.
Cleaned the MAF.
Took it to Twyford. Running fine. Gave it some stick. Still okay.
Would the bloody CEL light come on? Would it 'eck!

So perhaps one of the plugs had come loose? Who knows.
Anyway, better to be safe than sorry carried on over and got the dealer to take it out, road test it etc. They couldn't find a fault with it.
The only thing Kelvin did say was that normally a faulty plug or 304 code isn't accompanied by rough idling or running - the only time he'd encountered that and the worst case scenario is that it might be a burnt out valve :Suspiciou
Let's just hope it's not that and that this doesn't resurface.
