steering wheel is interesting :D

Welcome to SN, you must be on NASOIC?

crazed1981 11 September 2009 11:19 AM

welcome, not been here too long meself :)

joey_turbo 11 September 2009 11:21 AM

Welcome, good to see how you lot over the pond do stuff.

First off, great number (licence) plate.

Why have you got a RHD and why did you do all that to an Impreza L FWD? I've not heard of that model, but am guessing it is a Non Turbo Front wheel Drive.

No its quoted as having a td05 on it and has a rear diff from the pics. i would guess our american friend means 4 wheel drive to us awd

JonnyA 11 September 2009 11:39 AM

Nice car. No spoiler = good choice. Excellent licence plate. Looks good lowered, I hope the ride isn't too hard.

What sort of reaction do you get driving it around?

hodgy0_2 11 September 2009 12:14 PM

nice weather too

and it seems to have the DCCD lock on the dash -- so looks like AWD

might need a new tyre soon though (3 points and a 1k fine)

amego 11 September 2009 12:16 PM

the car looks good theres a few usa fellas on hear

I noted that, but thats what he had done to it now.
You are probably right about the 4 wheel drive, as I can't imagine there was a FWD Impreza, and converting to AWD would have been a major job.

Saint AAI 11 September 2009 01:06 PM

There was a FWD Impreza model and it was a 1.6 too. Means this car has had some major work, but why use such a car as a base? Looks good though, keep up the hard work and welcome.

tenchuuu 11 September 2009 05:37 PM

WOW this forum moves fast, LOTs of replys... I'll start from the top..

trails: the steering wheel is temporary :) and yes im on nasioc

crazed1981: thanks :)

joey_turbo: its rhd because i love rhd, and its differant, its hard to differant in my home car scene. and yes, originally, the car was front wheel drive, and non-turbo. that model was used because they are dirt cheap to find!

Turbotits: its still called AWD in the states, joey_turbo was correct it was originally front wheel drive non-turbo.. PS- love your screename

JonnyA: thanks, and its a ROUGH ride on ****ty american roads, but its FUN in the turns. the most common reaction i get is shock, people always ask me if my car is from great britain, i guess they think thats the only place that has rhd cars, LOL!

hodgy0_2: yes tires are in need of replacement! but im getting some new rims for it and the enkies are getting snow tires, so im not too concerned!

amego: thanks!

joey_turbo: early gc imprezas in america were available with awd but most were fwd

Saint AAI: 1.8L actually EJ18. The L FWD is very very easy to come by, and for cheap (who wants FWD??). The AWD is harder to find, and at LEAST 2x the price for an AWD with the EJ18 non-turbo. Not untill 1998 was an AWD non-turbo EJ25 impreza availible in the states (2.5RS), and not till 2002 was the WRX availible in the states. We are far behind in the Subaru world!!

JonnyA 11 September 2009 08:30 PM

Wow, you must have really wanted a Scooby to start with a FWD non-turbo!

Did you do all the work yourself? How long has it taken?

P.S. If that's your house it is parked outside, my wife likes it - she has a thing for clapperboard houses.

amego 11 September 2009 08:36 PM

i duno you american cant even put the hood stand in the right hole:lol1::):thumb:

richie001 11 September 2009 08:46 PM

Hi tenchuuu,welcome to SN :thumb:

tenchuuu 11 September 2009 08:56 PM

JonnyA: I can't take credit for doing the work myself, most of it was done by others, but I can take credit for driving it :P hahahaha, being in the Army it would have taken me YEARS to get the car to this level, don't have much wrench time available! And no, thats my parents house, I was back home for 2 weeks visiting, I live in the desert, houses don't look anything like that, LOL

amego: Thats the only hole it fits in! LOL, I usually don't even have the hood prop on the car, I just put it on to keep the hood up for pics. The STi hood is light enough that it doesn't hurt me to hold the hood up, lol. And if i'm doing any prolonged under the hood work I just take the hood off anyways!

richie001: thanks!

tenchuuu 11 September 2009 09:02 PM

Also..

It wouldn't have really been much less of a hassle to start with an AWD model, since everything on the drivetrain is stronger now then what I would have gotten on a stock AWD gc, and theres no such thing as a stock turbo gc impreza in america, so i would have been non-turbo reguardless..

Yup, its on the Right side :D

DeanF 11 September 2009 09:49 PM

Nice House ;) & Impreza Too, Should look the Dogs Dangles with a bit of work like you say...

Someone appears to of stolen your exhaust !! Sorry Muffler :D I can't see one anywhere !!

:thumb:

Dean

tenchuuu 11 September 2009 10:01 PM

DeanF: Thanks, hahahahaha, no, a combination of vibrations, extremely stiff suspension, and a 2200 mile (3540km) at almost constant 4500-5000rpm drive resulted in one of the Cusco exhaust hangers melting, then loosening the bolts till the muffler removed its self, LOL. Its in the trunk just never got around to putting it back on!

Mikkel 11 September 2009 11:06 PM

Proper gear box and the steering wheel in the right place. You must get some strange looks across the pond ;)

Nice care mate. As you say needs a bit of TLC in places but overall looks good. I like Imprezas with no spoilers and you colonials have always led the way in that respect :thumb:

You must be desperate for a nice few corners to go around.

Hope you get home safe soon to enjoy it mate. :)

They look alot bigger than the fronts, lol

tenchuuu 12 September 2009 06:31 AM

Mikkel: Thanks!

joey_turbo: Its not just you, I have to rebuild the front calipers so I put those on temporarily. Though i'm thinking about getting Project Mu brakes for it.

S1FU 12 September 2009 12:11 PM

Welcome to the club fella. A lot of hard work gone into that so hat off to you :thumb:

F1 CJE UK 12 September 2009 06:28 PM

nice car mate welcome, only a few mods lol :notworthy:notworthy

GMballistic 12 September 2009 06:49 PM

Welcome to Scoobynet Tenchuuu :thumb:
Different especially with the chrome around the window's....was that standard on the US variants? And love that number plate, much better looking then our yellow & white one's. Gorgeous colour that seem's to show it's beauty best in the picture of your car from the rear looking down the street...very nice :)

tenchuuu 12 September 2009 07:00 PM

Thanks guys. Yeah the chrome is standard on the L models. I don't like it, lol. Its going black when the car gets painted.

amego 12 September 2009 07:05 PM

that looks a nice street you live in any more picks you can throw some picks in of the local ladys if you like:norty::lol1:

tenchuuu 12 September 2009 07:27 PM

Haha sorry not really any other good pics just some ****ty quality pictures I took for memories, defently not post worthy. Glad you guys like the plate, its funny how everyone wants what they can't have, TONS of people in America wants the long plates you guys have in Europe! To clarify again, thats not my house, thats my parent's house. I'm only 22 with a 3 year old so I can't afford a house like that, lol! I live in the desert too, so scenery isn't nearly as nice, this is the only picture I can find where you can see my house in the states, a pic I took when I went off roading with my old daily driver, LOL

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7.../IMAGE_069.jpg

JonnyA 12 September 2009 08:04 PM

I suppose a nicer house is just one more thing to work towards.

You take care and make sure you get back home to finish the car too.

tenchuuu 12 September 2009 08:18 PM

Yeah thats a long way down the road when I get out of the military, I move too much to be concerned about a house, as long as its not falling apart, and i have a garage, im happy! LOL
