Opinions/experiances on R33 GTR

Evening lads n lasses,

For the whole of today ive been hankering after a R33 GTR. Wondering if anyone has any experiance with these.

I will be keeping the scoob, just a change of daily driver. Handling wouldnt matter but i hear they are easy to get big power out of?

Sideways ability would be a plus. So pos consider the GTST.

Nothing comitted yet just doing a bit of research. :)

Cheers

would love one but think you need very deep pockets, lots of gtr tax.................

scoobyc 10 September 2009 07:36 PM

What the motors capable of pre forge/big work?

scoobyc 10 September 2009 07:40 PM

Hmm. Looks like you can get a R34 GTT for similar price of the R33 GTR....opinions on that welcome too.

Powerwise: exhaust, intake, decat, remap and raise the boost to 1.0 bar will get you to high 300s, maybe 400 bhp if you're lucky (I got 380bhp with a crap map).

Beyond that you need uprated turbos, the standard ones are ceramic and the exhaust wheel parts company with the shaft above 1 bar. If you're lucky it ends up sat in your backbox, if you're not reversion draws it back through the exhaust as ceramic dust which ends up in your oil effectively destroying the engine.

There's loads of options on the turbos, from standard ones with steel internals (500bhp) up to massive single turbos (1500? bhp).

Standard pistons are good for about 600bhp, standard cranks good for 800 depending on who you ask.

Handling is awesome for such a big, heavy car. When you're going for it, it just shrinks around you and the rate of turn-in is spectacular thanks to the rear steering. It's rear-biased but if you want a full on drifter it's probably not for you, it's not easy to hold a big angle as the steering and 4WD don't really allow it. You often find yourself coming out of turns with the rear sliding but with no steering on i.e. you don't need opposite lock much.

Cool.

How do those figures compare to the R34 GTT with the RB25det engine?

scoobyc 11 September 2009 11:51 AM

which is the better buy. the r34 gtt or the r33 gtr?

I've been thinking about an R34 GTR all day. Just trying to work out how deep my pockets are...

scoobyc 11 September 2009 12:27 PM

Really nice one just went at auction in japan. About 11.5k. White, 2000 with 29,000km onthe clock. Grade 4.5.

Importation costs would be a bloody fortune tho :S

That would cost approx 14.5k with shipping, import tax and vat paid!! What auction site did you see that on?

There are some GTT's running ~500bhp but I think that's their usual limit. The blocks aren't as strong and the heads are restrictive compared to the RB26.

I went through the same process as you but eventually decided I just wouldn't be happy unless it was a GTR.

BUT if it comes down to a choice between an absolutely mint R34 GTT and a scabby R33 GTR, I'd go with the minter. Buy the absolute best you can afford and prepare to sacrifice spec for condition i.e. don't buy the one with all the bells and whistles if it's a bit scruffy. These things cost big money to put right if they go wrong.

I have have a trade account at one of the auctions in japan. Friend of a friend kinda thing so i can price em up :)

Tbh i think the R33 looks a bit dated for me to be spending 10k odd on one. But the R34 imo still looks awesome.

Yaeh problem is i want a R34 GTR. But only got R34 GTT money. Id by happy to do some body tweaks tho.

Just a question of finding one now. Never know, next week i might come off the idea and back in love with the e46 M3!

NotoriousREV 11 September 2009 03:30 PM

If you drive one, chances are the looks won't bother you ;)

How would it compare with something like a Toyota Yaris on the A483 Rev? ;)
